Persona 5? Yup. My first time at pre-ordering a game lol. It was great. Took a little adjustment for some gameplay tweaks they’d made, but I was totally into the story and characters. And one thing I was eternally grateful for was them finally letting you choose what skills a Persona inherits instead of the stupid lottery system that would waste so much time.

If you’re just talking gameplay, you can swap Personas in your inventory and summon one into battle to perform a particular skill. Each Persona has different skills and specialties. You can summon Cu Chulain to make a physical strike on a group of enemies. Next turn you can swap to Isis and use a powerful wind spell on one target. Then next turn, you can summon Melchizedek to heal your party. The enemies, Shadows, have different weaknesses and resistances. Hitting a weakness does extra damage and lets you make another move.

From a story perspective, Personas are a manifestation of your determination to face the hardships of life that take the form of various gods, heroes, monsters, etc from the collective sea of the subconscious. It’s all very Jungian. In Persona 4, you couldn’t acquire a Persona until you faced your Shadow, the dark, repressed part of your psyche, and learned to accept it.

hmmm, and how would a persona rp work?

You would choose a character and a Persona that gets awakened during the story. You would get to choose three skills to start with, and acquire more skills and stronger ones as the story progressed. Your Persona might even evolve into a newer one.

I’m thinking of a setting like Equilibrium, where a drug is being used to suppress dangerous emotion. But that suppressed part eventually breaks free and becomes a Shadow that wreaks havoc. For example, let’s say a character is mistreated at work and has a terrible boss. The drug would keep the character from getting upset or doing anything about it. But those buried feelings would build up until they erupt out of the host as a monster that goes and wreaks up the office and eats their boss. The government would try to hush up these cases, of course. So the protagonists have to stop the Shadows and take down the drug company.

Either that or a college setting. Maybe go back to roots and have a game between Philemon and Nyarlahotep about humanity.

I think it would be fun. Having a Persona is kind of like having a Servant. And it’s fun to come up with one that matches you. They’re usually classified under one of the Major Arcana, which dictates what skills it has. Persona of the Chariot Arcana are usually physical based, Persona of the Priestess Arcana are usually good healers, Persona of the Justice Arcana usually have strong light magic and decent healing, Persona of the Hermit Arcana usually have status-effect skills to screw with the enemy, etc.

I favor the Justice Arcana, cause it has lots of awesome angels. Metatron is my favorite.

Nope. They’re just a reflection of your character. I think I might allow characters to talk with their Personas, but it would technically be like a conversation with yourself in your head.

Yup. High-level angels tend to have robotic/metallic looks to give them a cold, unfeeling aura.

I wonder how the conversation would be if your persona was that **** thing.

"Hey! you like ****ing?"

"Hell yeah!"

"Yeah!"

I think it’s a great rp for in-depth Charisma creation, cause it makes you think. Let’s say we go with the college setting. You could have a character going to business school with the intention of taking over his father’s major corporation. On the surface, he’s controlling and has a high opinion of himself, but deep down he’s insecure that he’s not actually capable and people will only follow him because of his name. He’d be a great candidate for a Persona of the Emperor Arcana. Let’s say Gilgamesh. So because he’s of the Emperor Arcana, we’d start him out with an electric spell like Zio, and maybe a physical skill like Cleave and Tarukaja to buff his attack. As he grows, he’d learned mid-tier physical skills and high-tier electric spells with stat boosters like Electric Amp and Mind Charge to increase his damage output.
