Supernatural: Legacy - Call of the Wild

"Well wasn't he wearing wrist watch?" Mati asked Ava, as he thought he caught a glimpse of the watch that was hidden underneath Reynolds' shirt. "In any case, I will see if I could find out if he himself is a werewolf." Then he looked at Ava and Alex, "Would you two like to do the stake out?"

The Next Day

In had been decided that further contact with Reynolds wouldn't do them any good. He most likely already knew what they were up to, and increasing his suspicions wouldn't help.

In the end, all three decided to perform a stakeout of the mayor's office. No unusual visitors came during the day, and at night, he went home as usual. They did, however, catch sight of him playing with that silver whistle of his as he spoke on the phone - his private one, not the office phone. That ruled out him as the werewolf, then.

The trio followed Reynolds to his home, but it was well past midnight and nothing had happened. Ava yawned, feeling bored, stiff, and annoyed - and quite ready to pack it in for the night.

"Let's go," she sighed. "He ain't budgin'."

Suddenly, the garage door slid open quietly, and the black car backed out of the driveway and down the road.

"Follow him," Ava told Mati, sliding out of the car. "While the cat's away, Miss Mouse will play~"

She stole across the street quietly, heading around the house toward the back as the black car rounded the corner out of sight.

The attacks... they'd all been near the park trail and the woods. He'd probably be heading that way. They might even be able to head him off and get there first.

Mati nodded, "Be careful." And he drove the car to follow the black car. Mati let Alex to decide what himself wanted to do as Mati saw the great danger in sending Ava alone.

Besides, Mati liked working alone as he doesn't need to restrain himself too much when he was dealing the supernatural beings alone.

Anyways, keeping the distance, Mati followed the car without troubles. If it was average human beings' eyes it would have lost its target pretty soon, but as he wasn't ordinary human, it was easy for him.

Alex stayed with Mati because he didn't think that the werewolf would be a pet in the Mayor's home.

The black car made its way slowly around toward the park. When it reached the corner, it paused momentarily to allow someone to slip from the shadows and climb into the passenger seat before it began moving again.

And now, the car merely began to drive aimlessly around a few blocks before returning back to the park, where the passenger got back out of the car and slinked back towards the woods as the car took off back toward the mayor's house.

[OOC: You can try to pursue the passenger into the woods, if you like.]

Ava crept silently through the large house, nosing carefully about for anything noteworthy that might help her, but to no avail.

She crept into the master bedroom, rifling through the drawers and under the mattress. Still nothing.

Ava peered into the closet, pushing aside clothes, unsure what she was expecting to find. Sighing in frustration, she looked up and noticed a square panel cut out of the ceiling above the closet. Ah, what was this?

Mati looked at Alex, then looked at where the passenger was going. "Alex, you take the wheels to pick up Ava, I will follow that man." Said Mati, and he sent a text to Ava. [The Mayor is returning home, get out from there]

"Or do you want to follow that man?" Mati was sure that himself could follow the man, but he wasn't sure if his partner was up for it. Even though, it was clear that Alex looked really fit, human rarely could overwhelm werewolf's stamina or speed. The only reason why he asked such question to Alex was simple, Mati didn't like the idea of offending his new partner's pride.

Alex just laughed. "Ah, nah, it's nothing. I'll go. I'm not good at stalking, but I'll definitely be able to keep up." He took a moment to take off his shirt and throw it in the back seat, [jesus he was ripped,] before jumping out of the car and breaking into a fast jog.

Chasing after the suspicious maybe-werewolf, he felt his body waking up. To be honest, he was glad for the warm-up. He just hoped if the werewolf noticed him, it'd attack instead of run. Until then... Well, his morning jog used to be three hours. Stamina was the most important part of boxing, in whatever weight class you're in. Something was bugging him though...


... Why did he take off his shirt again?

Whoever had been occupying the car with Reynolds seemed to realize he was being pursued once Alex started to close in. Without looking back, the man began to dash away, trying to lose Alex in the woods. But the escapee was not nearly as physically abled as his pursuer, and the gap between the closed until Alex was close enough to make his move.

The man tumbled to the ground, staring up wide-eyed at the shirtless psychopath breathing down at him.

"I... I don't have any money," he gasped, glancing over at the wallet that had tumbled out of his jacket pocket. "Please, I have a little girl at home..."

Sure enough, the wallet was empty. It did, however, carry a driver's license in it.
Simon Parker's.

Ava pulled out a shoe box from the crawlspace, leafing through the materials inside. She stopped short, hardly believing what she was seeing.

Should she take the materials? No, too risky.

She pulled her phone out, ignoring the text as she hastily took pictures of the materials inside. Just then, lights shone from outside, and Ava knew the master of the house must be returning.

Quickly, she jammed the materials back in and shut the lid on the box before hastily shoving it back into the crawlspace. Legging it down the stairs, she just made it around the corner and into the kitchen when the door to the garage opened softly.

Tentatively, Ava reached out, pushing the sliding glass door to the patio open as footsteps approached. Hurriedly squeezing through the opening she'd made, she shut it as quietly as she could before diving behind the hedges out of sight.

Panting in the grass, she muttered a string of swears and oaths before checking her phone.

[The mayor is coming home. Get out of there.]

"Yeah, no kidding," she muttered, peering to make sure the coast was clear before sneaking around the side of the house. Mati's car was waiting, and she slid into the back seat with a sigh of relief.

"Whew, that was close," Ava gasped. "Wait till you see what I got."

Her hands brushed against something - cotton? - and she pulled up the object into the moonlight.

...a shirt?

"Eh?" Simon Parker... was someone Mati was supposed to talk to, right? "Dude, you're the suspicious one. I was just out jogging." He just looked at the empty wallet. "You just got out of the Mayor's car and ran for the woods... with an empty wallet." As he crouched down, Alex slid a coin out of his pocket. A silver coin. He then grabbed Simon's hand to help him up, pressing the coin against the back of his hand to test if he was a werewolf. "Well, I'm sure you've got an explaination."

"Oh, that's Alex shirt... he took it off and chased suspicious person to the woods...." Mati rubbed his neck, "Do not ask me why, I have no idea why he did that..." Mati took the shirt from Ava's hand and tossed it to the back seat.

The car started its engine softly, driving it back to the park. "So what did you find in the mayor's house?" Mati asked, letting her to continue from where she left off.

Simon looked flustered, maybe even a bit scared as Alex tried to help him up.

"I'm not sure what- gah?!"

He jerked his hand back in pain, staring first at the mark on his hand, then Alex's hand, then Alex's face.

"You're...."

There was a moment of stunned silence. Then, Simon dropped to the ground and snatched up a large rock by his feet, pitching it at Alex's head. Thanks to his fast reflexes, the rock managed to graze him more than directly hit, though it was still enough to drop him to the floor as Simon took off, disappearing out of sight into the trees.

Ava pinched the bridge of her nose, trying not to think about why Alex would do something so mind-boggling.

"Yeah, right," she said, returning to the matter at hand. "Take a look at this."

Ava's phone displayed pictures from the contents of the mayor's stash - including pictures of an obviously transformed Simon Parker, feasting on the bodies of each victim.

"Odd thing is though," she said, looking at the pictures. "They were taken pretty close-up. How'd he get that close without getting attacked? Why was he that close anyway, taking pictures?"

One of them was different, however. One photo was taken from a distance, and though it was hard to tell who the body on the ground was, the picture clearly displayed a full moon. And they only knew of one victim from a full moon attack.

Mati rubbed his forehead as he drove the car, "I knew he was hiding something from me.... I just didn't know what it was..." Then he glanced at the pictures once again, and the speed of the car increased, Mati was driving it back to park as soon as possible. "May be he has something to do with Simon's transformation..." And Mati added his last sentence as the came closer to the park. Something made Mati irritated.

As they reached the park, Mati looked at Ava, "We need to find Alex quick, something must have happened!" and then Mati left the car searching for Alex.

"Alex!" Mati shouted as he ran into the woods, hoping he was on time and nothing happened to Alex.

Alex returned to the car, the left side of his head matted in blood. "Threw a freakin' rock... what kinda werewolf throws rocks..." He was mumbling before he opened the door. " 'Kay. Simon's our wolf. Pretty sure he's being blackmailed though. Ran away first chance he got... scared shitless... didn't have money in his wallet. You guys do the whole... plannin' thing. My head's woozy, so I'm gonna lay down..."

And with that he fell in the back seat, shaking the car, and fell unconscious.

Ava got out of the car as Mati sprinted out into the woods in search of their third member. But almost as soon as he'd disappeared from sight, Alex had emerged from a different path, looking like rather the worse for wear.

"Dammit, are you all right?" Ava asked, helping him into the car. He informed her that Simon was the werewolf - something she already knew - before passing out in the back seat.

What was surprising, however, was that after being outed, Simon had not tried to bite or maul Alex. He'd only tried to escape.

"Maybe he ain't all it seems," she muttered, calling Mati to let him know Alex had returned.

[OOC: Nex, you can get us back to the motel in your post. I'll wrap things up from there.]

Mati returned to the car, and he sighed in relief that Alex was still breathing. Before Mati sat on the driver's seat, Mati gave a cold gaze at the branch of the tree that seemed to be waving at them.

As they reached the motel Mati, who didn't look all that strong, carried Alex without trouble. Yes, Ava was there and she might be surprised that Mati had such strength, but as it had to be done quickly, she might not notice such small detail. Making sure Alex was in proper position to take his unexpected sleep, Mati shifted his gaze to Ava. "Did he say anything?" He asked her.

Ava knew that strength wasn't all showy muscles, but it was still surprising to watch the visibly smaller and thinner Mati carrying in the much larger, brawnier Alex inside their room without any assistance. Still, it was hardly consequential or noteworthy, so she said nothing. Instead, she fished out a first aid kit and began to treat the wound to Alex's head.

"Nothin' we didn't already know," she said, shrugging. "Simon Parker is the werewolf, but..."

She looked at Alex's injury and thought on his words.

"He's scared, and more defensive than aggressive," Ava concluded. "Somethin' more is goin' on here than meets the eye."

The run-in was unfortunate, however. Now that Simon knew hunters were after him, he'd probably try to leave town. Come to think of it, he would have done so already, if he were smart. Was it that little girl of his? Or was something else keeping him here.

"Well, whatever's goin' on, Reynolds has somethin' to do with it," she said firmly. "And I'd like to know what..."

[OOC: You can wrap things up, Nex, and then I'll start the next and final day.]

"Well, I have a feeling we need to face them head on." Said Mati dryly. "Besides, we spooked Simon. He could have told Reynolds about us." Mati continued in serious tone. "Tomorrow is probably going to be the final day to solve this craziness." Said Mati as he clenched his fist; he was disgusted by Reynolds and Simon... To Mati, they were same. One was a coward to admit his crime, one was a manipulative bastard who wants to get what they want.

NEXT DAY

Trapped. Trapped like some kind of animal in a cage. If it weren't for the fact that his life was going to hell in a hand basket, the irony might have been amusing. As it was, he didn't know where else to turn.

His fingers threaded through the soft, brown curls, pain gripping his heart. If it had just been about him, this would have been over long ago. But Amber...

Simon stood up, wiping his eyes. It was time to deal with this problem.

Ava tossed away the remnants of their breakfast in the trash bin in the corner of the motel room before turning back to the other two hunters.

"All right, so we split up. Alex can track Reynolds, and Mati and I can go after Simon. Then-"

There was a knock at the door, and Ava cast a look at the door before signaling to the other two. It might just be room service or something, but it never hurt to be prepared.

Ava gripped the doorknob and swung it open, only to be faced with Simon Parker in the doorway. Immediately, she pivoted back, whipping out her pistol and aiming it at his face.

"Don't move, or I'll open a third nostril between your eyes," she swore. But he only sighed and raised his hands before stepping into the room and shutting the door with his foot.

"I need to talk to you. Your hunters, right?"

It was an unnecessary question, given the guns all currently aimed at him. But he merely pressed on and leaned against the wall, rubbing his hand across his face.

"Just let me tell you the truth, and then you can kill me now, or later. I have no doubts about how this will go down in the end."

Alex took his shoe off and threw it at Simon's face, before crossing his arms and 'hmph'ing. Because of him, Alex had actually fallen into actual sleep, something he'd been avoiding. And, in the morning, he had woken up and called Mati honey, thinking it was her. Bloody dreams. ALSO SIMON THREW A ROCK AT HIM. IT WAS ONLY FAIR HE GOT A SHOE THROWN BACK.

Mati had his eye fixed at the Simon Parker as he came in; however, his eyes were soften as Mati remembered Amber, daughter of Simon's sister. That girl's only family was Simon...

Mati lowered his weapon, "Alright, Simon. Let's hear what you have to say."

Simon winced, then blinked in surprise as he stared at the shoe lying on the ground. For a moment, his lips twitched, almost as though he wanted to smile.

"I guess I deserved that," he said quietly to Alex. "Sorry about your head."

He looked at Mati and nodded, then took a deep breath.

"Well, you've probably figured out some of it. You seemed to be sniffing up Reynolds trail, anyway."

"So he is involved," Ava said, frowning. "That lyin' rat..."

Simon nodded darkly, then looked at the ground.

"I won't pretend it's not my fault. I'm the werewolf. I couldn't control it, and I killed them. But I never wanted to. He forced me into it. When he needed things taken care of, when any kind of threat to his office came up, he would arrange a meeting out by the woods with them. I'd show up, and then..."

He trailed off, closing his eyes, as though he could distinctly remember every kill.

"But how? None of the kills after the first happened during the full moon," Ava said. And if he couldn't control his urges, he couldn't be a pureblood.

Simon looked at her, and for a moment she was surprised and frustrated that she hadn't thought of it before, how it stood out so clearly to her.

"The whistle," he said quietly. "The silver whistle."

The silver whistle... It became very clear now... however, there was a question that Simon had to answer before they make any decision.

"Was he involved with your sister's death as well?" Mati asked him, in careful manner.

Mati knew what this question was implying and he knew clearly that it sounded rude of him to ask such question. Did Simon kill his own sister because of his urge? Or was this doing of the silver whistle as well?

In either way, the fact that the blood of Emily Parker was in his hand and that cannot be changed.

So, it was that silver whistle she'd seen. Been Ava still couldn't be sure what it was.

"How does that work exactly?" she asked interestedly. Simon didn't seem keen on describing it, but he did so, regardless.

"He said it was the Lupus Call," Simon told them. "A certain frequency played through a silver instrument will affect the hearing of a werewolf, driving them into a frenzy that forcibly transforms them. Whenever I arrived, he would blow the whistle, and I... I couldn't stop it."

It was becoming very obvious that Simon had no relish in any of the deeds he'd done, but it was still necessary for Mati to ask the hardest question of all. Simon had been expecting it, but it was a bitter pill to swallow nonetheless.

"No..." he said at last. "He only profited from it."

Tears came to his eyes, but he wiped them away hurriedly.

"She didn't know about me," Simon told them in a hoarse voice. "I'd been bitten over a year before, but I'd learned to contain myself. I'd lock myself in my cellar, and chain it shut with silver. That way, I couldn't hurt anyone. But when Emily's husband left, I had to move here to help her with Amber."

Ava could already see this arrangement heading for trouble, but she said nothing. Simon took a moment to compose himself, then continued.

"I couldn't stay in the house with the two of them there and risk anything happening. So I rented out a storage locker across town and used the same trick. Sometimes, if things got really bad, I'd have to eat some animal hearts. It worked for a while, till Emily became suspicious. She followed me one night, then began interrogating me. Thought I had a drug problem or something. I tried to tell her to go back, before something happened, but..."

He squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head miserably.

"The moon came out. It was too late. I could hear her scream, and then-"

He cut off, and struggled visibly not to break down into tears.

"Reynolds saw the whole thing," he said abruptly, his voice steadier and colder. "His family had been hunters. He'd seen the signs. He helped me take care of Emily, hide the incident from everyone - especially Amber - but said I would be indebted to him. I didn't full understand the consequences until the first time he'd called me out for one of his meetings, and he'd blown that whistle..."

Mati sighed and let his body drop to the chair, "Ava, could you ask HQ for an advice?" Mati said to Ava, it was clear that he was not joking, then Mati returned his gaze back to Simon. "Simon, listen to me carefully..... At your current state, I am worried that you will hurt Amber as well," Mati said it clear and dryly, "So does Amber have any other relatives? Or Someone you could trust?"

Alex just sat there, brooding. He wasn't that involved in the case from the start. It wasn't like he'd gain anything from it. Especially now that the werewolf seemed rather tame. It looked like another bust...
