Familiars aren't exclusive to "dark magic" nor can they be made by science. Besides, considering they're considered servants and property, I can't imagine starting a war to destroy the balance of the earth over them.

The familiars are supposed to be physical brawlers, while their masters use magic.

Of course, walking around with a goat isn't exactly normal. More subtle than a dragon though lol.

We very technically volunteered for this. (the teacher in charge of our class basically begged us...)

I'll never understand the idea of being required to volunteer. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?
