The Forge (Weapon Empowerment)

Outside of battle, he's normally reserved and speaks little. He is, however, generally callous and doesn't really seem to understand social convention all too well. He takes great care of his weapons, keeping them sharpened and well-polished at all times. In battle, however, all reservations fly off the wall, as he instead wears an excited grin. When a fight gets too heated, he occasionally loses himself and goes on a rampage. For all his berserk tendencies, however, he can be a surprisingly good strategist when he’s keeping a cool head.

He was born the son of an aspiring young merchant couple. While they'd never managed to make much headway into the profession for most of Zephyr's young life, one of the hired bodyguards took a liking to the boy and, perhaps for the fun of it, taught the small child how to use a sword. The man stayed under their employ until Zephyr's father found a large and promising venture involving moving to a different city. As they left the gates, he came to see them off, giving the boy a small sword custom-built to his size, more as a memento than a tool to actually use.

As fate would have it, however, their caravan was besieged by a large horde of demons in-between the two cities. In the confusion, Zephyr somehow managed to slip away from the caravan, watching people he'd known all his short life be ripped to pieces as he ran, confused and terrified. The boy had managed to reach the forest that had been near their path, and settled down in some bushes to catch his breath, hoping he'd not been followed.

Then he heard. The sound of a battle close to his vicinity. His heart nearly leapt out of his chest in fright. Scrambling up as quietly as he could, he tried to get a better look. What he found made his blood run cold, or even colder than it had already been. A group of Imps throwing around destructive spells like they were on a bargain sale faced what looked like a small group of wounded pixies... and the charred corpses of what he could easily recognize as his parents.

The boy, who had happened to be positioned right behind the imps, felt his mind go completely blank. He only had fuzzy memories of what came next, but as the Imps gleefully executed more of the Pixies, he burst from the bushes. They, in their merriment, failed to notice the small boy with a tiny sword drawn... and that was that. Like a whirlwind that popped up out of nowhere, he cut through the beasts like they'd been made of paper, with strength no child should rightfully even possess. In their shock, they hadn't even managed to react, all save the last one, which snapped out of its daze and managed to blast the boy with a fireball, though not before losing an arm.

An otherwise completely normal 10 year old boy, Zephyr was badly burned and flung back from the impact. He landed heavily, and it seemed his body finally realized what it had been doing shouldn't even have been possible at that moment, twisting and breaking as well. Before the Imp could finish him off, the last of the Pixies lopped its head off from behind with the sword he'd dropped. With the battle effectively over, she found that only the boy still had any life left. She healed him to the best of her ability, which, as quite a young Pixie, was barely enough to keep him alive until a rescue and extermination squad found them two days later.

The Pixie never left his side since that day. He was taken in by the guard that had taught him, and was eventually sent over to Chaldea for training after he'd expressed the desire to do so. Lingering effects from the traumatic experience left him with the tendency to occasionally go berserk in combat, but he slowly learned to manage this and was deemed fit enough to be allowed to mingle with peers in combat exercises.
