Thevana's story is interesting. She raised in secret by the Emperor and Athevna(her mother), her life as a child is pretty simple and spoiled. However everything changed when one day she find herself watching her mother kill her father. In his last breath he sends Thevana away to a remote village outside of his control.
There she encounters Zaid(who's gender has been changed to that a male) who raises her until she's old enough to act by herself. Still unable to forget what her mother did and noticing the absent of the Emperor, she easily acknowledges that her father died. As such she raises the rebel groups and travels to the mercenary city to gain money to sustain the group.
- Spoiler:
Having the blood of both a "god"(Emperor) and a powerful witch(Athevna) Thevana has no problems raising in ranks, eventually even taking the place of the old Guild Master.
In that positions she uses the guild's resources to search for weapons and artifacts that can help her attack the capital and defeat her mother. Fast forward a few years, she finally finds a clue that can help her. The secret location of a powerful weapon. She sends Zaid to collect it.
However this was all a well constructed trap. With Zaid away, Thevana was left unguarded and she was captured by the soldiers and taken away.
Zaid in his mission finds the artifact, but had to face a abomination that was guarding it. The artifact which seemed to be a staff apparently belonged to the Emperor. Once Zaid returns, he discovers that Thevana had been taken away and he chases after her.
When Thevana wakes up, she find herself in a dark cell with barely any light. She can tell that she's in some form of nightmarish prison because of the moaning and screams coming from the other cells. She deduces that's she's in the prison of the Slave City.
While she's there, she hears two powerful voices arguing over something close by, one male, the other female. Soon after the arguing finishes, a man clad in black armor and carrying an executioners axe shows up and calms Thevana stating that he has no plans in harming the daughter of the Emperor. During the following days the two engage in several conversations and she learns multiple things from the man. First of all his name was Rhar, he was an old soldier who fought a long side her father a long time ago. He was the prison's warden and executioner. And although he was someone that finished off people prisoners in a daily routine, he was actually quite a nice person.
- Spoiler:
Eventually Zaid arrives and begins to cause havoc among the prison. Rhar being the prison warden is forced to engage on the intruder and the two fight.
While this is happening Thevana is still chained up and locked in her cell. That's when she finally shows up, Athevna appears in front of Thevana and begins to examine her daughter, while Thevana goes on a rant of insults. As to add insult to injury, Athevna gauges out Thevana's eyes, saying they reminded her too much of that man.
- Spoiler:
That's when both Zaid and Rhar enter, being the prison warden, he felt the new presence and came straight after it while Zaid simply followed. Rhar and Athevna engage in a trade of insults and in the middle it's finally revealed that the Emperor is dead. Rhar shocked that his friend had died at the hands of his own wife, he tells Zaid to take Thevana and flee.
Rhar and Athevna engage in a fight, but it goes completely one sided. Athevna reveals to Rhar that he was nothing more than a ghost chained to a suit of armor that she had prepared, showing to him that he had been her minion all a long, only to finally end his existence afterwards.
Thevana remains in a coma for like a week, until her begin to manifest and heal her, even her eyes were fully healed. when she wakes up, she is confronted by Zaid who explains her the situation. While she was asleep, the Emperor had returned, completely demolishing what Athevna had said before.
Believing it all to be a farce, she decides that it is time to start the campaign against the capital. Amassing a large army and equipping them with all the artifacts she had gathered, they march.
A long the way Zaid shows her the staff he had found and Thevana confirms it to be her father's staff.
They engage in the siege and while that all fight is happening the two infiltrate the capital and run for the palace. They notice that for a war situation, there were no guard protecting the palace. That's when they are engaged by Athevna and a man dressed and the Emperor.
Athevna begins to explain her plan to bait Thevana out of her hiding all a long and how now she was close to finding her answer. But she gets stabbed in the back by the Emperor, who after doing so, simply casually walks back to the throne room. Shocked, angry and wounded Athevna engages on Thevana while Zaid follows after the Emperor.
The two have a fierce battle of magic, and although Athevna far surpassed her daughter, she was wounded and bleeding. Slow a steady Athevna loses her advantage until she is fatally wounded by Thevana. They have a final talk where Athevna answers all of Thevana's questions. That's where she learns about everything, the curse, the reason for killing her father and what her mother had been planning all a long.
- Spoiler:
It seemed that Athevna had killed the Emperor by accident, she did not want to, but her hunger was so large that day that she ended up sucking away his life. Horrified with the trauma her brain is bombarded by old memories of similar events where she allowed her hunger get the best of her. That's when her plan began.
She wanted to die, but her pride and curse would never allow someone weaker to kill her. So she decided to mold the only other person she knew capable of growing so powerful, her daughter. Everything had been set up for that moment where her daughter would kill her. In her last breath she tells her that's she's not sorry for using her for such selfish reasons and advises to kill herself before the curse take her over.
Thevana ignores the advise and absorbs her mother's powers, believing that her mother was a weak coward and that she would be different.
When she arrives to the throne room she encounters her worst fear. Zaid lays dead, while the Emperor stands firm with his staff in hand. Initially both engage in a conversation, but Thevana quickly learns that it's useless because whatever the man is, he's not the Emperor and does not recognize his own daughter.
- Spoiler:
Having the new powers, the two engage in a fierce battle and by the end Thevana wins. She discovers that the man was actually a sand golem created by her mother and concludes that she was likely very lonely to have resorted to this trickery.
