Jordan stifled a yawn with the back of his hand as seemingly endless miles of road stretched out before him. He glanced over at Mati, wondering what was going through his partner's mind. The closer they drew to the Men of Letters bunker, the heavier this must all be sitting with him.

"You holding up all right?" he asked. Before Mati could answer, both of their phones chimed with the unique alert from the Men of Letters app.

"A new case..." Jordan mused. He glanced around the road and, noticing nothing close by, stole a glance at his phone.

"Hey, check out this, Mati. It's not that far out of our way. You want to stop and scope things out?"

Surely, Sera couldn't fault them for doing their job.

Mati sighed, yet he smiled. But his smile was very faint. "I...." Then the ring of his phone for the new case as well caught Mati's attention.

"Why not, I could use some distraction..." He nodded in agreement with what Jordan suggested. Mati's posture, become somewhat much more relaxed. "I'm pretty sure Sera won't complain too much about it..."

Mati chuckled, "Well, hopefully."

Edgar rode a thick-wheeled black motor cycle, enjoying the wind on his face as he drove. He'd taken a new case from the Men of Letters, and was now close to his destination; the city of Layton.

He'd brought his various tools and equipment, packed in a saddlebag of sorts attached to his bike. He released a hand from one of the steering handles and patted the bag, a habit to made sure it was still there, before smiling to himself as he returned his hand to its place and sped up. He'd arrive soon.

Mati and Jordan pulled into town and headed straight for Stewart's house. It was nice and modern, probably quite expensive for a single man. The house was sectioned off with police tape, but that wasn't enough to deter them.

"Interesting," Jordan said when they passed by the mailbox. Apparently, no one had gotten around to notifying the post office that the current resident was deceased. What looked like bills and notices were piled up in there.

Getting inside was easy enough, and they didn't have to go in far to come across the infamous scorch mark the news had mentioned.

"What do you think could cause that?" Jordan asked, circling around it and careful not to touch.

Even though house looked fancy and exceptionally nice, Mati could not help, but feel disgusted. He then knew why he felt that way.

As Mati and Jordan got to the famous scorch mark, Mati frowned upon it, it definitely showed that he did not like the scorched mark at all.

"I have strong feeling that it's a demonic ritual." Mati sighed, "Or perhaps, I am being too sensitive to these markings." Said Mati, staring at the ritual to see if he could see anything that might tell him something.

Mati curled his lips, "I mean, there is a possibility that it could be related to a witch." He shrugged. "But, I cannot shake off the feeling that its demonic..."

Mati crossed his arms, "Perhaps, it could tell me something more about it." Then Mati touched its scorched mark, hoping it would trigger his clairsentience, but he was not too sure it will reveal it much.

Before Edgar pulled up to the house, he found someone had already beat him to it. Before seeing their parked car, he'd already felt their emotional signature from a little further off. Judging from what they were feeling, he figured they were hunters.

Edgar parked his bike next to their car, pulled the saddlebag off and strapped it to his back, then walked to where they were, which was also his first destination to begin with. He noted the full mailbox in the back of his head as he strolled by.

"Hello, it seems I've been beaten to the punch. My name is Edgar Grieves, are you also from the Men of Letters?" Edgar announced himself and extended his hand for a shake, a friendly smile on his face. It was always nice to have more people on a job. Supernatural fiends were quite powerful, after all.

Jordan stared at the spot and pondered Mati's words. Well, the marked floor certainly seemed like it could have been burned with hellfire. He watched as Mati approached the spot and placed his hand on it.

A terrifying visage flashed before Mati's eyes too fast to register, and a terrifying sensation of being pulled down. A scream, a scream of mortal terror slicing through him.

"Mati!" Jordan called in surprise, catching Mati as he wrenched his and away and fell back. It took a few moments for Mati to calm himself before Jordan helped him to his feet.

"What the hell happened?" he asked.

Before Mati could answer, someone else walked through the door. They both turned, surprised to see a man who quickly introduced himself as a hunter.

"Was it that obvious, or are you just that intuitive?" Jordan asked skeptically, giving Edgar's hand a firm shake. "I'm Jordan Blake. This Mati Grey."

Jordan cast a glance at Mati, wondering if he would be comfortable talking about whatever he'd seen with this other hunter around.

Mati was surprised as he actually did not expect anything from the scorched mark. To be fair, his assessment about it being a demonic ritual or a witch's ritual was a random assessment that came to his mind.

But, one thing was sure, he felt his stomach being twisted as he saw the mark, and anything that has something to do with demonic or witches' ritual had that effect on him.

In other words, it was his gut feeling that it involved demons and witches...

Furthermore, it was pretty clear to him that whoever saw that, it might have traumatized one to death, and it would take a long time to recover.

Thankfully, Mati knew how to separate himself from his own emotions and the one who went through it

As soon as Mati got back to his feet, he wanted to share with Jordan of what he saw, but with the new person entering the scene, Mati just sighed.

Mati gave a nod to Edgar as Jordan introduced him, then Mati stared at the mark. "I can't really say it in details, but I think Stewart was pulled in." Said Mati, "Not really sure to where and not really sure how, but something pulled him and left that mark."

Then Mati looked at the room again, "Let's take a closer look at his belongings, it might tell us something."

Whatever Mati saw, it definitely made him to take things much more seriously.

Edgar lightly shook hands with Jordan. Hearing their names, he realised they were famous hunters even he himself had heard of, but decided not to mention that as it might put them off. He could feel he wasnt exactly trusted yet, but that was natural. They were hunters after all.

"I guess you could call it intuition, I'm an empath after all" he replied lightly to the other man's query. He felt it would be best not to hide too much since they might be working together, and this particular fact wasn't really a secret to begin with. He did, however, note Mati as strange. He could feel he was there, but he couldn't get a hold of his emotions, like they were hidden behind a veil.

It wasn't like he was out of options though, he could still read enough of his expressionism to tell the man didn't really appreciate his presence. He decided to do his best not to get on their bad side.

"Pulled him? Sounds like demon work." Edgar commented off-hand, before taking Mati's suggestion to look at his things closer, also focusing his powers to find any signs of creatures, living or otherwise, prowling around the place. He half hoped there weren't any...

An empath?

Jordan had heard that word when he'd trained with Missouri Mosley. She'd mentioned various psychic abilities to him, one of which could sense and possibly even tap into the emotions of others.

"You're a psychic?" he asked, his expression hardening.

His telekinetic powers had frightened him enough in the past. After he and Mati had encountered Wendy Dunn on their first case together, though, he'd discovered just how dangerous psychic powers could be. An empath might not be as powerful as a telepath, but in the wrong hands, that power could still prove unethical at best and deadly at worst.

Jordan ignored Mati's instructions and continued to gaze at Edgar, waiting to see how this played out.

Mati looked at the guy, "I see..." Not exactly surprised, yet, not exactly taken off guard. 'Did MoL change qualification standards? thought Mati, however, his partner's reaction was something that caught him.

Perhaps, it was natural that he would give out such surprise look at Edgar... They did, after all, went through one dark case with a psychic...

The new guy was sharp though, Mati could give him that much. The guy quickly suggested that it could be a demon's doing; Mati responded the new guy's comment with quick search of the belongings. He had to be sure.

Furthermore, Mati could not waste time on evaluating the new psychic's capability nor his character. A life was at stake and he probably have to find something that could lead them to their actual target, before its too late...

Edgar began helping with the search, but stopped after a while and turned to meet Jordan's eyes. The warm expression he'd been wearing was replaced by a seriousness he seldom displayed.

"Your distrust is fine, but lives are at stake here. Save it for later." He then turned that steely gaze away and went back to work. He noted that at least Mati was doing his job right, and thst Jordan was probably the type that let his feelings run away with him. He'd keep that in mind till the other man did something to change his mind.

Edgar closed his eyes and focused his abilities, probing every inch of the house for signs of emotion that didn't come from his cohorts.

Jordan clenched his teeth. That punk had some nerve to try to act like he had the moral high ground. Still, it was true that the case was the more pressing issue at the moment.

That didn't mean he wouldn't be keeping an eye on Edgar. Like a hawk. And the moment Edgar's psychic powers became the more pressing issue, he would deal with it then and there.

Glaring, Jordan turned away from Edgar and began to search around the room. He stopped at the sight of a memo from J. T. Morgen Bank. Wasn't Stewart a bank loan officer there? Jordan scanned the memo, humming to himself. So, there had been an opening for a promotion there. Had Stewart been trying to get it? If that mail Stewart had piling up was any indication, he probably needed that promotion desperately to pay off some debts, like the mortgage on this house.

Jordan looked under the memo and raised his eyebrows. Well, now...

A photo of a blonde woman at what appeared to be an office, currently engaged in some very not-office-appropriate conduct with a man. Both were professionally dressed. Co-workers of Stewarts?

Maybe Stewart had been desperate. Desperate enough to resort to blackmail for that promotion.

"I found something," Jordan said, holding up the memo and photo.

"What is it?" Mati asked as he got closer to Jordan, and looked at the two items that Jordan had indicated that it might worth investigating. The photo of two people who looked like colleagues of disappeared man  and the memo indicating that promotion was happening.

Mati could not help, but frown upon it. "What's your theory on this one, Jordan?" Mati asked. Somewhat evidences were pointing out that the disappeared man was no good man; Mati did not like the feeling of this case already.

Coming up with nothing in his own search, Edgar joined Mati and Jordan in looking over what he'd found.

Judging by the contents of the memo, along with the other factors surrounding the vanished man, It seemed he'd been desperate for the available promotion enough to resort to sabotage or blackmail. Edgar somewhat felt that not everything fit the picture, however. A single promotion normally wouldn't be able to pay off any large amount of debt. He put that thought aside for now.

Edgar waited to hear Jordan's opinion before making any conclusions.

Jordan shared his thoughts about the memo and the photograph he'd found.

"Maybe he decided to blackmail the wrong person," he continued, looking at the photo. "And he got hexed to keep the secret from getting out."

The pieces added up quite nicely, although he knew that cases rarely tied themselves up so neatly. Still, no reason not to pursue the obvious path.

"In any case, I say we visit Stewart's work. I have a feeling that's where we'll get answers," Jordan finished.

Mati sighed, and nodded. "Yeah, let's visit them." Said Mati, not really liking the idea that the person might be one of worse type of human that needs saving.

"Shall we visit the guy first?" Mati suggested, "Or the woman?" Mati asked. Looking at the photograph, in Mati's perspective, both of them looked equally guilty of what they were doing.

In other words, Mati felt any one of them could be the guilty party. Or perhaps, both of them are the culprit of this case.

Edgar nodded in agreement.

"I can see if they're lying and convince them to tell the truth if need be." Interrogation could perhaps be described as his specialty. His skills and abilities were most suited to such tasks. He tugged his bag's strap. "If you don't mind, I'd like to do the interrogation."

If they agreed, then things would probably go much smoother, but if they didn't, he'd refrain, as conflict would only delay their progress further.

Jordan looked at the picture closely. The man was tilted away from the camera, so it was hard to get a clear read on who he was. But the woman was directly facing them, and that made her the easier target.

"Let's start with her," he said.

Edgar offered his services as interrogator, and Jordan immediately felt his mistrust flare up. Unfortunately, he could see the practicality of that approach, but it did nothing to make the situation less questionable. Getting a read on their emotions might be one thing, but manipulating them was another thing entirely.

"Fine," he muttered. "But if we say to stop, you stop. Got it?"

He turned and headed for the front door. They had some time during the drive to the bank, and Jordan planned to use it to find out whatever he could on this Edgar guy.

[OOC: Unless you guys have anything you want to get it, we can skip over to the bank.]

Mati sighed, and shook his head as Edgar suggested he should be the interrogator. Mati did not say anything to add what Jordan said, and his body posture did not have any hostile reaction.

Mati followed with Jordan to the car, but this time around Mati decided to drive. "I'll drive." Said Mati, "Something about him is troubling you right? You should check on him."

Mati started the car and drove to the bank.

"You go ahead with Edgar, I will get this car parked and will follow you in." Said Mati. "Go easy on him, yeah?" He said to his partner with some worried look.

"I'm a licensed psychologist, don't worry." Edgar replied as he nodded, now entirely ignoring Jordan's flaring hostility. He'd already addressed it, and pushing it further would just make more conflict.

He strapped his pack back on the bike and followed the pair's car to the bank in question, leaving Mati outside as he and Jordan entered to find their quarry.

Jordan glanced over at Mati as the other hunter drove them over to the bank.

"You know how I feel about psychics," he murmured. "Especially after what happened with Wendy..."

He could still picture Heather's water-logged corpse. Becky putting a gun into her own mouth, tears streaming down her face. Wendy laying bleeding on a bed of glass, after he had struck her with his own powers...

He shook his head, and the memories away with it.

When they arrived at the bank, Mati told him to head in with Edgar. Jordan ground his teeth, wanting to protest, but he didn't want to be the unreasonable person here. Sighing, he nodded and headed into the bank with Edgar trailing behind him.

Inside, Jordan paused and looked around the bank. It was a nice building, with the loan officers seated at their desks on the far side of the bank. He could see one was notably absent - Stewart. But the other was occupied by a blonde woman he instantly recognized.

Without a word to Edgar, Jordan strolled over the woman's desk and sat down.

"Hi," she said, smiling over at him. Her eyes darted to Edgar, then back over to him. "Are you two interested in taking out a loan together? Or do you have mortgage issue?"

Did... she think they were a couple?
