Caltha - Bunker
Luke Jaron

As the water hits him, Luke started to hum. He started to sing gently. "What day is it? And in what month?/This clock never seemed so alive/I can't keep up and I can't back down/I've been losing so much time" He started humming again,"'Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do, nothing to lose/And it's you and me and all of the people/And I don't know why/I can't keep my eyes off of you" knowing that there's no one in bathroom, he raised his voice little more. "All of the things that I want to say just aren't coming out right/I'm tripping on words~/You got my head spinning/I don't know where to go from here~" Then again, his passion out done him, raising his volume little more, "'Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do, nothing to lose/And it's you and me and all of the people/And I don't know why/I can't keep my eyes off of you" Then Luke turned off the water, and he got himself out to the main bath, naked, truly confident that there's no one. He came out as if he was holding an invisible mike. "Something about you now/I can't quite figure out/Everything she does is beautiful/Everything she does is right-"
Spoiler:
It was then he realized someone was there. Luke turned pink. To make it worse, when he realized it was Lenka...He wanted to find a rat hole and hide."Wait! I can explain I was-" Paused Luke, he realized he was naked, he rushed back to the shower room quickly. "I-I-I di-di-didn't know someone wa-was here!"

Aegis

- Marcus -

Marcus fought the urge to cringe at Rise's words. James was standing within arm's length of her, which meant he was definitely within earshot. It wasn't lost on him that James sent him a wary look as he entered the room.

"We got the bunks cleared off and put in bedspreads for everyone. Hopefully, by the time we need to be back in the room, he dust has settled out of the air." He brushed his fingers back through his hair, trying to push away some of the tension, before shaking his head to right it. "Anyway, I thought I'd check in and see what needs to get done next. I think Lenka was going to check on the situation in the locker rooms and see how bad those are."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Kaiser's Complex

- Alina -

Alina raised an eyebrow at Maxim's words. He spoke far too easily about politics for a 'doctor'. Still, his solution was worth consideration.

"Assuming everything is in order, regarding your heritage." She motioned to Ariana. "I would be willing to offer up a choice to the people."

"However, the nomination process would not be restricted to only the two of us. If we truly wish to be fair to the public, we must allow them to put forth their own candidates. Otherwise, we're simply strong-arming them into another potentially disastrous administration."

She turned her gaze to Farrington, narrowing her eyes in speculation. "I'm not sure what kind of assistance you're referring to, but I would have to decline such an offer. The administration must learn to deal with their own problems. Otherwise, it's destined to crash and burn anyway. We didn't put the new regulations into place to bail them out after the fact. If we sink, it's our own fault, and if we swim, it's because we put forth a system necessary to govern our people."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

- Keynes -

"Perhaps not, but his words are too subtle for the weight that they carry." Keynes leaned back against the wall, crossing his arms in frustration. "Whether Farrington realizes it or not, that man is the one who's really pulling all the strings."

And that was probably the most terrifying part. Farrington himself was a worthy opponent in the political arena. The fact that someone else was so easily steering him... Well, that wasn't anything to sneeze at.

Caltha - Bunker
- Rise -

Rise brightened up as Marcus gave them his report of the cleaning so far. James was preoccupied, so she waved him out of the kitchen.

"Okay, good. I've got something simmering right now, so, let's go out and check the... supply closet."

Once they were out of sight, she clapped her hands together excitedly.

"Well, did you tell her? What did she say?" she asked.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Kaiser's Complex

- Alina -

Farrington laughed and stroked his chin as Alina gave some speech about the administration needing to solve their own issues.

"So you don't want to know who was behind the Redcapes?"

He tossed a folder onto the table. Maxim's eyes followed its path. The fabricated evidence would lead them to the Anti-Strain movement, and a perfect wild goose chase to keep Alina and her cronies occupied.

"I hope you'll deal with them swiftly. I'd hate to have to clean up your mess once High Lady Adalia assumes office."

Maxim watched Farrington, waiting for the moment that fateful call would come, and that smile would drop from his face.

The com began to beep on Farrington's belt. He whipped it out and brought it to his ear.

"What is it?" he demanded impatiently.

Maxim resisted the temptation to smile. Perfect timing.

"They WHAT?!" Farrington exploded. His head whipped around to stare accusingly at Alina.

"What's wrong?" Ariana asked, alarmed. Farrington was practically shaking as he slammed his com down on the table.

"We're being attacked!" he snarled. "By the Grand Army of Kaddath!"

Maxim stood up, looking appropriately alarmed.

"But how?" he asked, only for Farrington to ignore him.

"So, was this your ploy, Grey? Invite us to the capital and then attack our base? How dare you."

He turned to the others and motioned to them.

"We're leaving," he growled. "Just try to stop us."

He barged through the doors to the conference room. Maxim placed a hand on Ariana's shoulder, and the stunned girl glanced fleetingly up at him before following in Maxim's wake, Belo bringing up the guard.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

- Lecarde -

Lecarde wondered if Keynes was picking up on something he wasn't. The doctor appeared largely benign and unassuming, but perhaps he wasn't the best judge of character. He'd never seen through Arzei Adalia's charade.

"Perhaps, but-"

A sudden commotion cut him off. Lecarde was stunned at the sudden turn of events. Had someone really issued an attack against the Old Guard's base?

Farrington and his entourage burst from the meeting room. Lecarde looked to Keynes, unsure what to do. They couldn't really stop a diplomatic party from leaving under the circumstances.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Peterny - Old Guard HQ
- Alexei -

Alexei emerged from the prison block to find it largely deserted. Soldiers seemed to be hustling about in another nearby sectors, orders and alarms echoing off the walls.

Alexei hurried to the nearest soldier and snatched him by the uniform.

"What's the situation?" he demanded. The soldier glared.

"An ambush by the Grand Army," the man said.

Alexei released him and glanced back toward the prison. Was it safe to leave them unprotected? But if it was the Army, maybe they'd try to recover the prisoners. He'd be better off leaving them.

"Kurik, where is he?" he asked. "Take me to him."

Caltha - Bunker
- Lenka & James -

Just then the water turned off and the singing became louder. Lenka realised what this meant and unsure what to expect, quickly grabbed a towel from the rack.

Sure enough, Luke came out. She hadn’t expected him to be naked, but after their run in earlier in Mark’s room where he was completely oblivious that he was shirtless, she had at least prepared herself for that possibility.

Quickly she tossed the towel at him before the steam from the hot water cleared completely.

Lenka shook her head in amusement when Luke’s face turned bright red and he rushed back into the shower room.

“I’m gonna leave now so you can finish getting ready,” she said with a raised voice, still sounding amused. “I’ll be in the kitchen.”

When Lenka closed the door behind her, she realised she should’ve been shocked, or maybe at least embarrassed? Funny, she felt neither of those things, well maybe it did have perks to grow up with a big brother. And Luke’s dorkiness made it easy deal with in a very lighthearted way.

She walked into the kitchen, but only found James sitting there, as usual occupied with his computer. Something was simmering on the stove and that was certainly not James’ doing.

“Where are Rise and Marcus?” Lenka asked.

James looked up, he hadn’t even noticed Lenka’s approach.

“They went to check on something, I think.”

Lenka rolled her eyes at him. “That’s a useless answer,” she said and walked over to the stove to check out what Rise was cooking. Grabbing a spoon, she tried it, careful not to burn her tongue. “Mhhh…this is good,” she commented.

“So, Lenka,” James began, not really sure where exactly he was going with his question. “How do you feel about Marcus and Luke being here…?”

“I’m okay with it,” Lenka said absentmindedly. Then her eyes narrowed and she looked at James. “Wait…what do you mean by how do I feel?” she asked and walked over to James.

Her brother cringed internally. Why did he even try? Of course she had picked up on that.

“I just meant…because we all have to sleep together in one room and they’re guys…” before he could continue, Lenka interrupted him.

“You’re a guy too, you know,” Lenka said.

“But I’m your brother. We’ve been on trips together before,” James tried to deflect, but Lenka wasn’t having any of that.

“No, no, no. That’s not what you meant,” Lenka insisted. “C’mon, what did you really mean?”

James sighed. “Look, it may have been pointed out to me, that this situation is very similar to the one I found myself in two years ago,” he explained hesitantly. “Being grouped together with strangers isn’t always easy and since you’re my little sister, I just wanted to make sure you’re okay with it.”

Lenka gave him a long look, but it was clear he had no intention of saying anything else. She sat down, still thoughtful. Two years ago her brother had accidentally joined Aegis, well mostly motivated by his crush on Rise. Wait? Could that be it? He thought she had a crush on one of the boys?

“You think I have a crush on Marcus or Luke?” Lenka asked after a long pause, surprise in her voice.

James looked uncomfortable. “…” he didn’t really want to answer. It would only make matters worse. “No…” he finally said. “Do you?”

“I…I haven’t thought about it,” Lenka said, suddenly not so self-confident anymore. For some reason, James still looked uneasy as if her answer hadn’t erased whatever worry he had. Then it clicked in her mind. What if it was the other way around? But then there was no way James had found that out by himself.

“Who put you up to this?” Lenka suddenly asked, sounding a bit upset. “There’s no way you would come up with this on your own. Was it one of them? Did they ask you to ask me?”

“No one put me up to anything, Lenka,” James said calmly. “Don’t you think you’re overreacting just a little?”

Lenka narrowed her eyes at him. She believed him, but that still didn’t mean no one else was involved. “Good, because you know I make my own choices,” Lenka said and stood up. “I think I need some fresh air.”

And with that, she started to walk out of the kitchen.

James didn’t stop her. Firstly this wasn’t a conversation he wanted to have with Lenka and secondly, she was too stubborn to listen to him anyways.

“Smooth, James, very smooth,” he murmured to himself. With a sigh, he went back to his computer screen.

------------------------------------------

Peterney - Old Guard HQ
- Kurik -

“Find their frequency,” Kurik ordered a technician in the command centre. “I want to know what they’re saying.”

Then he went on the com. “Captain Simon. Report status,” he requested. For a moment there was only static then Annabelle responded. “Reinforcement arrived. We’re engaged, but still outnumbered. The tunnel gives us a slight advantage. We can’t hold this forever.”

“Try to stop them from spreading out into other tunnels. Set up a barricade 20 m back to protect the next intersections,” Kurik ordered.

“Understood.”

----------------
South Tunnel - Annabelle

Annabelle cursed. The situation was a mess and she hated this. Going in with no proper planning.

She relayed the orders from Kurik back to her squad.

“Sergeant Leyton, take Yates and de Silva and built up some barricades. These bastards are not allowed to enter any further into the complex,” she barked.

It sounded like a war zone down here. The dimly lit tunnels, every now and then they flashed up when a magic spell was cast.

“Private Hawk, you’re with me,” she said and a grin played around her lips. “Let’s see how much they like the dark.”

They approached the front line.

“Mamudo,” Annabelle cast and just like that a field of darkness descended upon the soldiers of the Grand Army.

Before they could use their advantage someone had cast a Marakukaja spell, protecting some of the Grand Army soldiers from the darkness. Still, it worked. Their Kaja strain caster had revealed himself and Private Hawk didn’t need any other invitation and launched a barrage of attacks towards him.

----------------
Command Centre - Kurik & Lorrin

Kurik waved Lorrin over to the maps. “I’m only pointing this out because they breached so close,” he said and pointed at the map. Lorrin saw what Kurik meant. “Their point of breach is close to the prison. You think …?”

Kurik shrugged. “It could be a coincidence, but I highly doubt it. We may need to relocate her, just to be sure and before it become a dead end down there.”

“I’ll take care of it,” Lorrin replied and went to call on the prison guards.

Meanwhile the technician came over to Kurik. “Sir, I found their frequency,” he announced and turned the radio on.

“…might have seen through the plan….getting reports of engagement on the south side….you’re all clear to breach in the north east…proceed with caution…”

“Keep me updated,” Kurik ordered the technician and went back on the com. “This is Kurik. Squad 7 and 8 at the northeast entrance, you’re about to get visitors.”

“Copy that. We’re ready.”

“Sorry Sergeant, you’re outnumbered 3:1. I want you to pull back and rig the tunnel with dynamite. As soon as they are far enough inside, blow it up. It’s an isolated tunnel that will leave the rest of the complex unharmed. Then circle outside and join squad 11 and 12 in their attack. Understood?”

There was a pause and Kurik hoped that the Sergeant in charge wasn’t a total idiot. Fighting in an underground complex like this? It was usually a hopeless endeavour.

“Roger that, Sir. Dynamite it is.”

He breathed a sigh of relief and then relayed new orders to squad 11 and 12 that were standing by outside. When he turned around, he saw that Lorrin was watching him.

“The prisoner is being escorted to a more secure location,” Lorrin reported.

“Thank you,” he replied.

----------------
Prison - Nadenka

The key rattled in the door to Nadenka’s cell as it opened.

“Keep your hands where we can see them,” the guard ordered and then placed cuffs on Nadenka’s hands. There were three guards and they escorted the young woman out of her cell.

Their movement was methodical and calculated. Obviously they knew what they were doing.

“You’re being relocated,” one of the guards offered a short explanation. “The more trouble you make, the more unpleasant the journey will be for you.”

And with those words, they started moving down the tunnel.

----------------
Command Centre - Kurik, Lorrin, General Ramirez

Lorrin seemed hesitant about something, Kurik could tell from the way he checked the cameras.

“What is it, Lorrin?” he asked.

“It’s not my job to be up here,” the Captain finally replied.

Before Kurik could respond, the door flew open and General Ramirez walked in. “What’s the situation?” he barked.

Lorrin stood at attention and quickly filled him in.

“I’ve just informed Lord Commander Farrington about the situation,” Ramirez said. “Start the evacuation of the complex.”

He could see that Kurik and Lorrin were about to protest.

“That’s an order. I will not endanger everyone in here. They’re sitting ducks.”

Kurik nodded. Ramirez was probably right.

“Lorrin, join the attack at the north east side, try to draw them east as far as possible so we can evacuate out the far north entrance.”

Lorrin seemed to be relieved with that solution, grabbed a com and headed out immediately while General Ramirez began to sound the evacuation order.

----------------
North East Entrance - Lorrin

Lorrin arrived in the north east tunnel just as the Sergeant had finished wiring the tunnel with explosives. They watched in anticipation. There was a breaking sound and then the secure door to the entrance crumbled and revealed daylight and approaching soldiers.

“Are you ready?” Lorrin whispered and the Sergeant nodded. Slowly and quietly, they pulled back even further.

The Grand Army soldiers, irritated to not find any opposition, had stopped.

“Now,” Lorrin ordered and upon his word, a cascade of spells reigned down on the soldiers of the Grand Army. They responded in kind. Little did they know it was just a trick to lure them farther into the tunnel.

They kept the attack up until the opposing soldiers reached the first bend in the tunnel.

“Okay, blow it,” Lorrin said and ordered everyone else to move back and head to the east entrance where they would join squad 11 and 12 in their attack from outside. The tunnel had gone eerily quiet.

“Detonation in 3…2…1”

----------------
Command Centre - Kurik, General Ramirez

General Ramirez turned to Kurik and looked at him sternly. “How did they find us?” he asked.

Kurik made a disdainful sound. He was tired of being accused and suspected while he was busting his ass to keep things moving. “I don’t know, okay? And frankly that’s not really my concern at the moment….Sir.”

Just then, the technician approached both of them, looking intimidated. “Sir, you should hear this,” he said and held out the radio.

“…We’re under heavy suppression fire…can’t breach further or this becomes a bottleneck…Understood. This is Captain Santana. We’re sending more support your way to the south entrance. High General Grey is counting on use to clean this mess up before it escalates…”

“Hm…that changes things,” General Ramirez said and looked at Kurik. It wasn’t an apology, but at least a truce. He could live with that.

Just then a heavy explosion sounded through the complex.

Caltha - Bunker
Luke Jaron

When the door finally opened and closed, with Lenka saying she would be in the kitchen... Luke sighed heavily.

"I'm such a dork.."

Said Luke covering his face with his hands, and he quickly started to dry himself up. This time around, he opened the door to make sure that there was no one.

He dressed up in trainee clothes, and went to the kitchen. Then he slowed down little, scratching his hair in little frustration. "Okay... Okay...... what should I say to her?" As his foot step got closer, Luke could feel his heart beating faster.

Just few more steps, he would be at the kitchen. Luke could definitely hear his heartbeat even clearer than his own footstep. "what should I say to her? what should I say to her?..." He repeated the sentence as in whisper.

When he got closer to the door, the door opened and Lenka walked out. Lenka did not see him, but Lenka's walking out from the kitchen had surprised him to the point that Luke froze. 'Almost had a heart attack', that phrase came so real to him.

However, Luke quickly shake it off as Lenka continued to walk. Luke followed, and knowing how Lenka did not like surprises, Luke cleared his throat, to make sure she's alerted that someone was behind her. "ummmmm.... h-hi?" Said Luke, not really sure what he should say to her.

___________________________________________________________________________________________

Peterny - Old Guard Prison
Nadenka Orlov

"I know I am being relocated," Said Nadenka as her captor finally opened his mouth for explanation. "I am not here to make troubles, alright? How many of you are injured?" She asked, "I know you guys do not have many doctors here, bring me to your medical facility. Your injured soldiers won't last long if they are not treated well. Please, let me help." Her voice was concerned, and in earnest tone.  "I know it's hard to trust me with all these happening, but if I do anything suspicious, you could just shoot me dead." She gave a firm look, "I'm a doctor, and wherever I am, I am going to save lives."

She was not so sure, how they would respond. But, knowing well enough of how Kaddath works, the Old Guards probably have suffered more casualties than Kaddath. It was also obvious to her that the medical facility would not be enough to treat the wounds.... She probably need to use her strain to save them even.

It was okay if they did not trust her, it was okay that they did not like her; however, she's Nadenka, a doctor who would not let the common people, soldier or civilian, lose their lives because of the power struggles.

__________________________________________________________________________________________

Caltha - Kaiser's Complex
Belobog "Belo" Volkov

Belobog tightened his lips; redcapes being created by their own people.... Belobog knew this would shock the general.

However, Belobog's unchanging facial expression was hardened, and his eyes started to burn with hatred again as Farrington received the news.

He could have quickly attack Alina, trading blood for blood, but no, he was not here because of that. However, he knew that he had to get the guards ready to face any resistance of them leaving.

As he got out, he commented, "A traitor is always a traitor." Said Belobog, an implication to Alina that she had betrayed another people's trust.

Belobog took the role of the guards and made sure they would quickly move out. But he wished there was a resistance, so he could definitely make a bloody mess out of the kaddath soldiers who would block their way.

Aegis

- Marcus -

Marcus glanced over his shoulder as he and Rise exited the room. Thankfully, James didn't seem to be glaring at him now, but the man was probably distracted with something important, since he didn't seem to respond to Rise either.

"The supply closet?" Marcus pinned Rise with a sideways glance. "Are you for real?"

He sighed, leaning back against the wall. "Look..." Marcus trailed off, trying to compose himself for a second. "I appreciate the advice, but that's all it can be. Adivce. No more meddling. Okay?"

"This isn't something you can force to happen, and even if it was, I wouldn't want to do it that way. Lenka deserves better than that."

--------------------------------------------------------------

Kaiser's Complex

- Alina -

"You can't be serious." Alina responded, raising an eyebrow at Farrington's words. "You invited yourselves here, and I have no reason to order an attack on anyone."

She watched as they filtered out of the room. It didn't make sense. They had no reason to setup anything like this. Especially since it interrupted their talks when they had only just begun to pick up steam.

Unless... Had they not counted on her having the girl's DNA checked? Was this a ploy to get them out of a sticky situation before the results came back in?

--------------------------------------------------------------

- Keynes -

An attack on their base? Unlikely, considering the army didn't even know where it was located.

"Computer, are there any active assaults right now?"

The system hummed for a moment before responding. "One operation currently underway. Location: Peterny."

Keynes raised an eyebrow at that. "Clarify. Operation specifics."

"Assault of the Old Guard headquarters."

He coughed at that response. "Who ordered the operation?"

"Assault ordered by Alina Grey, High General of Kaddath."

That made no sense at all. Unless. "Damn it! The doctor!" Keynes planted his fist into the wall, leaving a dent in the metallic surface. "He played me."

Caltha - Bunker

- Rise -

Rise planted her hands on her hips and gave him a stern look.

"If I actually thought you'd do it instead of pining away from a distance like a big mopey-pants, I wouldn't be trying to help."

She sighed and relaxed her stance. Her fingers twirled through one of her pigtails as she thought back on her past experiences.

"Listen," she said. "It's going to come out eventually. Lenka's not that dense, and you're not that discreet. It's going to be a lot easier if you can confess on your own terms instead of hers."

She shrugged. Well, if he was going to be like that, there wasn't any point in forcing it.

"I've got dinner to take care of. I guess I'll see you later then," she said. Turning around, she headed back to the kitchen. The pot was bubbling nicely, so she turned it down a bit to simmer and sipped. Mmmm...

"Hey, how's it-"

She stopped when she turned around to face James. His face was flushed, as she knew it tended to get when he was flustered.

"Okay, what happened?" she asked, shaking her head.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Caltha - Kaiser's Complex

- Maxim -

The Old Guard's entourage filed out of the Kaiser's Complex back to the airship. Farrington's hand was twitching toward his com, but he was smart enough to know it was best to wait till they were in a safe space like the airship to contact the base.

Maxim suppressed a smile. Things had gone perfectly. Ariana's DNA test was unexpected, but he'd manage to mitigate that damage. If they came back and claimed it wasn't a match to Arzei Adalia, they could always say Alina had doctored the information.

"Get the base on screen now!" Farrington barked when they had entered the airship. In a moment, General Ramirez and Kurik appeared on the screen.

"What's the situation?" he demanded. Maxim approached him from behind and nodded at Kurik. He seemed to be handling the situation.

Good.

--------------------------------------------------------------

- Lecarde -

Lecarde was stunned by the computer's announcement. Alina ordered an attack on the Old Guard? It didn't seem possible, but the evidence was right there. Keynes immediately jumped to the conclusion of the doctor, but Lecarde wasn't so convinced.

"The doctor?" he asked. "How can you be sure? There's no way an attack like that would have been carried out without a direct order from High General Grey herself."

--------------------------------------------------------------

Old Guard HQ

- Alexei -

Alexei was brought to the room where Kurik was located by the soldier he'd detained. The man would not enter the room himself, but immediately ran off to where he'd been previously ordered. Alexei watched him go, then entered the room.

Kurik and some Old Guard office were speaking when Commander Farrington appeared on the screen with Maxim behind him. High Lady Adalia sulked in the background, having been left out by Farrington's preoccupation.

"This kind of Army aggression is... unexpected, yes?" Alexei murmured to Kurik as the Old Guard officer began to report to Farrington. Kurik was the one who'd been with the Army before, so he'd have a better idea of how these operations usually went.

Caltha - Bunker
- Lenka -

Lenka walked out of the kitchen, still occupied with her own thoughts and turned left. She had no idea where she could find the exit to get fresh air. Damn teleportation spells. It was great to get into something, but it made for crap orientation.

As she walked towards the elevator, she suddenly heard someone behind her.

“ummmmm…. h-hi?”

Lenka turned around. It was Luke. And he was dressed this time.

“What?” she asked, more intensely than she meant to. Lenka took a deep breath.

“Sorry, I didn’t meant to snap at you,” she said and smiled.

She pushed the elevator button. “I’m trying to find the way outside.”

-----------------------

- James -

James looked up when Rise called him out. He looked like he’d been caught red-handed.

Why oh why was he always so easy to read? Or maybe Rise and Lenka just knew him so well.

He stood up and walked over to Rise. “Okay, I may have asked Lenka how she felt about Marcus and Luke being here….” James said and pulled Rise close into a hug. Before she could get upset, he added. “Don’t worry, I didn’t tell her anything…but it still may have upset her a bit.”

James ran his hand through his hair. “She’s too perceptive and stubborn.”

Caltha - Bunker
Luke Jaron

"What?" Lenka sounded meaner and for a second, Luke thought he did something wrong. If he had puppy ears that could express his emotion, his puppy ears probably would have went downwards instant.

When Lenka took a deep breathe, and apologized. Luke sighed in relief.

"Oh, it's okay... I am glad that you are not angry with me... I thought I had made you angry because of a.....a... my carelessness..." Said Luke rubbing his neck, not so sure if that's what he wanted to say when he faced her...

When Lenka said she was finding her way to outside, Luke brightened up. "Really? If so, May I come with you too? I have been cleaning up hallways and bathroom myself, so I kinda miss some fresh air too."

Luke looked at Lenka, hopeful. Perhaps if he had a tail like a dog, he would probably be wagging his tail crazily. Then again, Luke was not so sure why he felt so excited about going outside.... But he definitely wanted to go outside... Yes, he misses fresh air, but was that the only reason? Luke could not comprehend, and at the moment, he was just too excited to go outside.

Caltha - Old Guard's Airship
Belobog Volkov, "Belo"

Belobog was full with rage and looked at the screen, he wanted to make sure his comrade Alexei was still well and alive.

Belobog sighed in relief as he saw glimpse of Alexei. Belobog clenched his fists, "They are going to pay for this." Said Belobog like a whisper, a whisper full with rage.

Caltha - Bunker
- Lenka -

Lenka was surprised to see that Luke looked almost guilty when she snapped at him.

“No, no, I’m not angry with you. Don’t worry about it,” she reassured him and smiled. “I’m just annoyed with my brother,” Lenka explained.

Finally the elevator arrived and Lenka stepped inside. She waved Luke inside when he asked if he could come.

“Sure, c’mon.”

Once he was inside, she pushed the elevator button for ground level. The doors closed and the elevator went up

(OOC: Nex, you can have them step outside if you want)

----------------------------

Peterney - Old Guard HQ
- Kurik -

Command Centre - Kurik, Alexei

Kurik was just trying to get a status report from Lorrin when Alexei entered the room and a moment later Commander Farrington appeared on the monitor. Thankfully, General Ramirez took over giving a report. Kurik knew he wouldn’t have the patience to be courteous to Farrington right now.

Instead he turned to Alexei.

“Not unexpected, but rather unusual,” he replied. “At least in the old days. I would’ve thought High General Grey would’ve exacted more patience to prove she turned over a new page in leading this country,” he shrugged.

“I guess I was wrong. I just can’t figure out how they found out about our location so quickly,” Kurik looked thoughtful. “Unless it has something to do with the army doctor in our prison…”

“I’m having her transported to a more secure location while part of the complex is being evacuated,” he informed Alexei. “The breach was too close to the prison and I didn’t want to risk her being freed. She knows too much.”

---------------------
Prison - Nadenka

The guards looked at each other upon Nadenka’s proposition.

“Should we…?” one of them asked tentatively, but another interjected. “No. Orders are orders and the facility is being evacuated as we speak. In a few minutes there will be no medical facilities left,” he said sternly.

“If we take her near the combat zone, that will make her even more vulnerable.”

They walked in silence until the explosion sounded through the complex. They all knew that could not have gone by without any casualties.

“Maybe once we’re outside and have assessed the situation, we can try and clear it with our General that you’re allowed to assist in the medical facility,” the guard said to Nadenka.

---------------------
South Tunnel - Annabelle

“Get the wounded out of here,” Annabelle ordered and cast another spell. Their defense was getting thin. They already had to retreat behind the barricades.

Even though the explosion in the other part of the tunnel had surprised their enemy, reinforcements were coming in and they just weren’t equipped to hold this position.

“Damnit!” Annabelle got on her com. “Kurik! Get me another squad down here. I need reinforcements and more medics.”

The response came promptly. “I’m sending you squad 1 and 2 and a few people to get your wounded out,” Kurik’s voice sounded calm over the radio. “Just a few more minutes and any tunnels from the intersection should be evacuated. Then you can fall back further.”

“Understood,” Annabelle replied. Even if she didn’t completely trust him, the orders he was giving were good and that was all that counted right now.

“Let’s give them a light show until then,” Annabelle’s lips curved into a malicious smile.

“Sergeant, get me a distraction,” she ordered. “Preferably some lightning. It’s time the Grand Army learned that they can’t just mess with us.”

Moments later, the tunnel lit up with Zio and Hama spells while Annabelle approached the bend where the army launched their attack from. She dodged a few spells and then was within range.

“Mamudo.”

Darkness enveloped the soldiers that were closest to her. From the curses she could hear that her spell had been successful. Time for the next step.

“Nihil Axis.”

A scream. Annabelle smiled. There was no escaping the darkness now. She could hear shouting. They hadn’t expected her to come this close.

She waited a few seconds and then cast again, picking her target carefully. This spell took more energy than most others.

“Nihil Axis.”

Another panicked scream as the next soldiers was dragged down into the darkness.

Somebody shouted orders. The Mamudo spell had worn off. Okay, time to go.

Annabelle began to retreat only to be confronted by a pair of soldiers who were spearheading the new attack. She knew she had to be quick now. Not wasting time to cast any more spells, she drew her weapon.

The soldiers charged at her, both armed with classic swords.

Annabelle used her axe to deflect them and with a malicious grin on her face she brought her weapon around and buried it in the stomach of the first soldier.

It was a short skirmish. They didn’t really stand a chance against her ruthlessness. After they both went down, Annabelle quickly retreated before another wave of soldiers arrived. She didn’t want to be caught in the cross-fire that was sure to ensure.

“Captain, you’re hurt,” one of her Sergeants exclaimed when she returned. She looked at her arm. He was right, there was a slash across her forearm that was bleeding.

“It’s fine,” Annabelle said and something in her eyes stopped the Sergeant from objecting. “Status?”

“The side tunnels are evacuated. The next barricade is up and we’re cleared to move back,” the Sergeant reported. Annabelle nodded. “Let’s go then.”

---------------------
North East Entrance - Lorrin

The explosion had collapsed the tunnel right above the soldiers from the Grand Army of Kaddath. There was a silence that settled, but it only lasted for a few seconds.

“Let’s go,” Lorrin ordered. “Get the wounded out of here and move the rest to the East Entrance. Permission to engage. We need to draw the as far east as possible so the rest of the complex can evacuate out the north side.”

They moved quickly and efficiently, however their numbers were also decimated. Many were wounded by the sudden onslaught during the attack of the army.

Lorrin hoped that once they attack from outside, they would have a better vantage point. He hated losing soldiers.

On the way outside, he realised his com had taken damage in the explosion. Crap, Kurik was probably trying to reach him. And he needed to coordinate with the two squads already outside and approaching from the north end.

They reached the east entrance just as received another com. Lorrin signalled his men to move forward.

“Kurik?” he said into the com. “This is Lorrin. North east tunnel is successfully collapsed. We’re preparing outside breach. Patch me through to squad 7 and 8 to coordinate.”

Kurik was relieved to hear Lorrin’s voice. After the radio silence, he had gotten worried that something might have gone wrong. “Understood. Evacuation is still ongoing, so try your best to keep them on the east side.”

He listened intently as Lorrin coordinated with the squads already in waiting position outside. However when Lorrin and his men moved outside, they found no one.

“Kurik! What’s going on?” Lorrin asked. “Get me drone surveillance, we have no eyes on the enemy.”

Kurik jumped up and got on the monitors. It didn’t show anything. “The drone is down. Squad 7 and 8. Report.”

The radio crackled. “We have no visual confirmation. Last status: Enemy forces moved away from the north entrance. We’re sending out recon now.”

Kurik paced up and down impatiently. He could do nothing but wait and he had now way of knowing what the situation was like out there.

Then suddenly…

“It’s a trap! Get back into the tunnel!” The radio went crazy with people shouting and yelling orders. Quickly he flicked through the cameras until he saw what was going on in the tunnel.

Apparently after the explosion the soldiers from the Grand Army had moved to the east entrance quicker than anyone from the Old Guard and the moment Lorrin and his men stepped out, the Grand Army had cut them off from the tunnel and attacked. They were now without connection to the base and the east entrance was open with no line of defense.

Lorrin saw what was happening a split second before his radio com went crazy. Chaos ensued. He knew they couldn’t move back to the tunnel, but they also couldn’t move into the hillside where the Grand Army probably had their base of operations.

“Move south,” he ordered his men. “Squad 7 and 8, move in to attack! And somebody seal that damn tunnel so they can’t get any further inside.”

He cast a Kaja spell to protect his squad from the incoming attacks as they scrambled to move out of the line of fire.

“I can’t hold the east entrance. I have men down and we have nowhere to retreat,” Lorrin called into his radio.

Kurik had already jumped into action. He ordered the tunnel doors at the far end to be sealed, but since it was an integral part of the complex, so blowing it up was not an option here. Meanwhile the other squads had moved in and provided cover for Lorrin and his men to retreat back. However, the situation was quickly getting out of hand.

“Lorrin! I’m sealing the tunnel. Support is on the way. Just hold on, I’ll get you a way out.”

He turned back to Alexei and the others.

“We can’t blow the tunnel like the last one,” he said and looked at the map and the topography. Then his expression turned thoughtful. “There’s a water line running beneath it though…”

He shook his head. “It’s too crazy and too dangerous. Anyone attempting it would never make it out. The water pressure it too high.”

Nadenka Orlov

Nadenka bite her lips, but she did not protest. When the explosion was heard, Nadenka was shocked and looked at the two soldiers who were with her.

Both did not look surprised, they looked like they were expecting it. When the guard said he would talk to the officers about it, Nadenka nodded. "Alright, have it your way. I do not know what your superiors are thinking, but make sure I could aid you as soon as possible." Nadenka bit her lips, "He better be alive..."

Caltha - Bunker
Luke Jaron

"Oh..." Luke nodded slowly, not really sure what kind of face he should be making; in his opinion, Lenka and James looked closer than how he and his brother was like. So, a fight between them was something he did not expect to happen.

When Lenka invited him to the elevator, Luke said, "Thank you" and he quickly entered. He was not sure why, but his heart started to beat even faster when the elevator closed its door.

Luke was not so sure, what he was thinking, but his eyes gently drifted to Lenka. Perhaps, he was wondering if Lenka was alright?

Luke shook his head little, and tightened his lips. He knew well enough that it was not his business to butt in. But his mouth... "Well, I hope you are not going back, you really helped us back there."

Luke face-palmed, feeling stupid. Luckily, elevator opened the door and Luke quickly stepped out. he stretched his arms high, took a deep breath.

"Anyways...uhhh... where are you planning to blow your steam? I promise I won't be nuisance... Could I just tag along?" Luke asked.

He was not so sure why, but he definitely felt hotter by asking that question.

Aegis

- Marcus -

"Stubborn I'll agree with." Marcus said from the doorway as he stepped into the room. "Perceptive, I'm not entirely sold on. That seems to be more situational."

He glanced back and forth between Rise and James when they both turned their heads in his direction. "Oh, come off it. I didn't mean to interrupt a couples' conversation, but considering the contents of said conversation, which I heard very clearly from the doorway by the way, I'd say it's justified."

Marcus sighed, running his fingers through his hair. "Not that this is really a conversation I want to have with the two of you, but if there's gonna be a firing squad, you might as well open up now and get it over with."

He had a fairly good idea that he might regret this later, but if it meant not having to deal with this later, when Lenka herself was present, Marcus was pretty sure it would be better this way. She didn't need the stress of it all blowing up on her when he was the instigator.

---------------------------------------------------

Kaiser's Complex

- Keynes -

"So, it's real then?" Alina asked as she entered the room, looking annoyed.

"Unfortunately." Keynes spoke through gritted teeth. He didn't know how the doctor had done it, but he was the only person that left the meeting. "With time logs, I'm sure we can account for your presence here. As you previously stated, everything in the conference room is recorded. It's not something that's going to just blow over though."

"I'm well aware of that." She replied, taking what appeared to be a calming breath.

"What are you gonna do with that?" Keynes gestured to the folder in Alina's hand.

With her attention directed to it, she eyed the folder like it was poison and held it out to him. "Verify it, but don't act on it. I don't trust Farrington as far as I can throw him. He was lying about something, but I'm not sure what. If the information is valid, we'll present it to the Council. Otherwise, burn it."

Turning on her heel, she exited the room, probably headed for the communications hub to get in touch with the Peterny base and find out what exactly they'd been ordered to do.

"You should probably go with her." Keynes said to Lecarde as he flipped open the folder and gave the contents a first glance. "She's had just bad enough of a day to make her irrational, and you know how well that tends to go over." He gave the other man a pitying look and a pat on the shoulder. "Good luck."

Caltha - Bunker

- Rise -

Rise shook her head when James admitted he'd blabbed to Lenka.

"James, you know I love you," she mused, returning his hug. "But I definitely shouldn't tell you this kind of stuff."

Just then, Marcus barged into the kitchen and interrupted their moment. It seemed he was laying all his cards on the table.

Rise looked between Marcus and James, wondering how this would play out. Should she just leave and let them have their guy moment? No, maybe it was better to stay and act as an intermediary.

"You don't have to justify yourself," she said, frowning.

-------------------------

Caltha - Kaiser's Complex

- Lecarde -

Lecarde nodded to Keynes and followed after Alina out of the complex. She didn't seem to be in any kind of mood to talk, but there were things that needed to be said.

"Do you think she's really Adalia's daughter?" he asked. "There's something about her I can't place. But it's familiar."

-------------------------

Peterny - Old Guard HQ

Alexei stared hard at the map, then back at Kurik.

"I'll do it," he said. He'd been useless since they'd arrived in Kaddath. Surely, he could manage this much.

He thought of Nadenka for a moment. He hadn't really said a proper goodbye. Then again, he was no good at goodbyes, and it wasn't like they really mattered to each other.

Maybe it was just the tiny idea that it would be nice to be missed. Kurik was a decent guy, but they weren't particularly close. And he wasn't even sure what was going on in Belo's head anymore. Maybe Ehlana would have, if she hadn't gone first.

"Death by water," he thought. "Guess we'll both have that in common then."

-------------------------

Ocean

Jax awoke with a start, realizing he'd dozed off. He looked around the craft, skin smarting from the sun.

It looked as though Lisa had dozed off at some point as well from exhaustion. The craft had come to a stop, drifting slowly in the waves. How far off had they drifted exactly?

As he shifted his weight, he realized something worse. His suspicions from earlier were confirmed. The inflatable boat had definitely lost air. A lot.

Ocean
- Ehlana -

Ehlana looked up when Jax woke up. The inflatable raft had been drifting in the waves for the past hour or so when Lisa drifted off.

She couldn’t even have slept if she wanted to. Everything was too bright and too warm. Even though she had pulled her sleeves down, she could feel the sun burning on her skin. Her head felt hot, but hopefully the sun would go down soon.

Ehlana noticed that Jax looked alarmed. Right, the boat had lost some air, steadily it became noticeable.

“At this rate, it’ll last only a few more hours,” Ehlana said, her voice already sounding a little coarse.

---------------------------------

Caltha - Bunker
- James -

“I know, I know,” James murmured.

Just then Marcus came into the kitchen. James was surprised how direct Marcus was. His brows furrowed. He was unsure what to make of this.

“Look, I don’t know what you have in your head or what you are expecting here,” James said. He didn’t look angry or upset. “It’s none of my business if you have a crush on my sister or not. Or if Luke has a crush on her.”

That wasn’t entirely true, but until Lenka was actually confronted with this or made her own feelings known, he wasn’t going to get in the middle of this.

“Frankly, there are more important things happening at the moment and I really don’t want to get involved in your kindergarten antics. I don’t have a problem with you or Luke and as long as Lenka is happy, that’s not gonna change.”

James sighed.

“I should get back to analysing that video footage and get it back to Keynes. He sent me the video footage from the hangar where prisoner transport airship was stationed that Jax took.”

---------------------------------

Caltha - Outside the Bunker
- Lenka -

Lenka gave a small laugh at Luke’s surprised expression.

“What?” she asked. “Siblings fight. It wasn’t even a real fight. More like a disagreement,” she smiled.

When they were outside, she studied Luke’s expression, wondering if there was any truth to James’ words. Luke’s question distracted her.

“Thanks, but so far I haven’t really done anything. I’m sure you were a bigger help so far.”

She looked up and down the street. It was almost empty. In the heat of the day, there wasn’t really much around, but there seemed to be a patch of grass that resembled a small park.

“Let’s go there,” she said and pointed to the grass and the few trees that they could see. “I just want to relax a bit outside before we have to go back downstairs,” Lenka explained and sat down in the grass, leaning against a tree.

---------------------------------

Peterney - Old Guard HQ
- Kurik -

Command Centre - Alexei, General Ramirez

General Ramirez and Kurik both looked surprised when Alexei volunteered.

Kurik looked at Alexei. He didn’t know the man very well, but he knew he was determined. Driven. Just one look in his eyes told him that Alexei meant business.

Still, he had to ask. The chance for survival was slim at best. What would Maxim say if he sent one of his best operatives to almost a certain death?

General Ramirez also looked expectantly at Kurik, apparently waiting for him to make a decision.

“Are you sure, Alexei?” he asked calmly, ignoring the busy radio. The other man looked at him, his Arusian eyes clear. There was no question. He was sure.

Finally Kurik nodded.

He went on his radio. “Clear the north east tunnel. Prepare the explosives.” After he received confirmation, he turned to Alexei.

“Okay, we’re here,” he said and pointed at the map. “This is the tunnel entrance. It’s going to be sealed once you’re in there, so the only way out is the entrance where the Army of Kaddath is waiting.”

“The water line runs below here.” Kurik looked around and grabbed a gps from the gear table. “This will lead you to the exact point,” he explained and handed Alexei the gps. “If you as much as drift a few feet the explosives won’t make a big enough impact and the water pressure will be too low.”

“Once you detonate the explosives, your only way out will be in the direction of the entrance. However there is enough water pressure to fill the tunnel within 30 seconds.”

Kurik listened to the radio for a few seconds. “It sounds like they’re close to breaching the entrance, so we have to hurry. You have to get to water line before the army reaches it.”

“Understood?” he asked and gave Alexei a radio com. “Keep me updated as long as possible. And good luck.”

--------------
Prison - Nadenka

They reached the north bound tunnel. It was busy with people working on the evacuation. Vehicles transporting equipment and people out of the complex.

The guards slowed a little, making sure they kept Nadenka between them and not to get lost in between all these people. They couldn’t afford to lose her.

There were a couple different announcements via the intercom system in addition to the evacuation alarm.

Suddenly there was new announcement. “All personnel clear the north east tunnels. All personnel clear the north east tunnels. The tunnel will be sealed immediately. Flooding will commence in T Minus 4 Minutes.”

The guards slowed down. “Did you hear that?” one of them asked.

“Yeah, that’s the tunnel that was breached. Whoever is doing the detonation is one poor son of a bitch. They’ll never make it out alive,” the other one replied. “I wonder if they had to order someone or if they found somebody who volunteered…” he mused.

--------------
North East Entrance - Lorrin

As soon as Alexei left the command centre, Kurik got back on the radio to coordinate with Lorrin while General Ramirez dealt with the evacuation.

Lorrin, we’re flooding the north east tunnel soon after the army breaches the tunnel. Keep the occupied. Once they’re flushed out, it should be easy enough to pick off the survivors,” he said into the radio.

“Copy that,” Lorrin replied. The situation looked slightly less dire now that the other two squads had arrived to support him and his men and there was actually a plan. “We’ll do our best. Keep me in the loop.”

--------------
Grand Army of Kaddath - North East Tunnel Entrance

“Return fire,” the Commander ordered, “Push them back. I want them running for the hills.”

He turned around. “And you three, get that entrance open. Use any force necessary. They are counting on us to breach.”

“We’re close, Sir,” one of his Sergeants reported. “Only a few more minutes and we’re in.”

Prison - Nadenka

"What do you mean 'never'?" Said Nadenka, "and what's all this about flooding?"

Said Nadenka as she clearly did not understand what was exactly going on. But when they talked about the volunteer, she could not shake off the bad feeling.

"Please, I want to know, what's really going on?"

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Caltha - Outside the Bunker

Luke Jaron

"Nah, I was being difficult. I did not do much in the first battle with that people too." Said Luke, rubbing his neck and became little pink as he remembered what he had said to her back then.

He couldn't believe it himself that he was being so difficult. Thankfully, before he could recall all the dark moments and embarrassing moments, Lenka pointed at where trees were.

Luke nodded as Lenka said she wanted to rest there "Sure." He replied and followed Lenka and sat down near her, a different side of the tree, giving Lenka a space to lean on the tree. Luke tried his best not to show her, but he was even more troubled. Luke could hear his heart even louder. To make it worse, Luke continuously caught himself of staring at Lenka for some reason, soon he found himself covering his eyes with hand, he did not want to create any misunderstanding.

He was lucky that he did not sit beside her, or else she would have thought of him weird for looking at her.

"So... uh... how... how was the training with Keynes?" Surprised by his own question, he quickly tried to undo the question. "I, I mean, was this your first time cleaning dusty places?" Then Luke couldn't help himself, but slap his forehead, "I mean, I mean.... uh.... You know what, would you like me to be quiet? I, I can do that." Said Luke nervously, and somehow finding himself little pink.

'Nice going Luke, really nice going. So smooth....' Luke thought to himself, sarcastic, as he sighed. Luke leaned on the tree as well, feeling troubled. He just could not understand why he felt excited around Lenka, and and not being able to talk to her properly added to his trouble thought, too.

Aegis

- Marcus -

Well, that went over far more smoothely than expected.

Marcus regarded James in silence for a few seconds before offering a stiff nod. "I agree that there are more important things going on. That's why I wanted to go ahead and sort out any tensions that might arise between us now, rather than later."

Taking a deep breath, he made his way across the mess hall to the kitchen area. "Is there anything I can help with?" He asked Rise as he glanced around the kitchen. "It feels weird to be in an enclosed space with nothing to do."

---------------------------------------------------------------

Ocean

- Lisa -

"It's worse than that." Lisa spoke up from where she was leaning back against the raft. "I patched it an hour ago, but I've only got the energy to hold it, not re-inflate it."

"That's also draining energy that I could be using to move us. If I keep it patched, I can only move us for one hour after three hours of rest. That's far from ideal to get us anywhere quickly."

She sighed and glanced out over the horrizon, where there wasn't any speck of land in sight. "If I ignore the leak, I can build up the energy to move us twice as fast, but once the air is out, putting it back in will take a lot more energy than simply holding it."

---------------------------------------------------------------

Communication Hub

- Alina -

"Get those soldiers in Peterny off the ground! Now!" Alina stormed into the room, bringing a wave of frigid air with her. "And get me a recording of the order to launch the assault!"

"I want to know where the signal originated and what time it was delivered." She glanced around the room at the dumbfounded faces looking back at her. "Now, people!"

---------------------------------------------------------------

Electorate Office

- Keynes -

Keynes flipped another page in the binder before throwing it on his desk with a growl. The information made sense. It was a slam-dunk. The only problem was that in all his time working for the military, Keynes had never seen a slam-dunk case that was legitimate.

The com beeped, and he punched the receiver. "Keynes."

"We have the analysis of the girl's genetic matching."

"And?" He held his breath, waiting for the results.

"Her claims to the house of Adalia are unfounded."

For some reason, that came as a surprise. Still, it would make things a little easier if she decided to raise a stink over the attack. "Send me the full report."

Caltha - Bunker

- Rise -

Rise felt slightly abashed at James' response to the whole drama. It did seem a little petty to be getting caught up in this at the moment.

"Right," she murmured as he walked away. "Let me know if you need anything."

She and Marcus headed back to the kitchen. The pot was bubbling, and Rise had to rush to turn the heat down.

"Could you clean off the table and then set it?" she asked Marcus. She fiddled with the stove for a few moments before turning back around.

"And... sorry for making things awkward like this. I just wanted to help," Rise sighed.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Caltha - Communication Central

- Lecarde -

The com technicians scrambled to fulfill Alina's orders, shivering both from fear and the sudden temperature drop in the room. Lecarde was only half-paying attention to them. It was Alina he was worried about. There was always so much stress on her shoulders, and now this...

"We have this on log," a technician said to Alina, bringing up his records. "The order to attack the Old Guard was issued by Captain Santana twenty minutes ago. Ten minutes prior, the instructions for the assault were sent to him by... High General Grey, here at the capital. The com signal originated here, however, we can't pinpoint its exact location."

Another tech held up her hand.

"I have the orders issued here."

She hit the playback button. There was no visual, only audio. However, no one could argue that it was Alina's voice.

"Captain, this is High General Grey. I am currently engaged in negotiations with the Old Guard and have received word from our spies of the Old Guard's current headquarters. Send a battalion immediately to attack the base while their leadership is still in Caltha. If we can take out their headquarters, we may be able to force a quick surrender before more war rips apart this land. I'm counting on you, Captain."

The technicians looked up at Alina, silent.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Electorate Office

- Serena -

Serena Winters entered the office, her brow furrowed as Keynes barked out orders.

"I heard the Old Guard left in short order," she said. "What exactly happened, Keynes?"

---------------------------------------------------------------

Peterney - Old Guard HQ

- Alexei -

Alexei took the coms and the explosives and nodded to Kurik. He ran from the office, picturing the map in his mind. He was in soldier mode now, the most natural state for him. No questioning or feeling. Just getting orders and following them.

He reached the water line and headed down inside. The water was cold, but he ignored the bite as he waded his way through to the point Kurik had indicated.

"I'm inside," he told Kurik through the com. "Seal the tunnel."

He pulled out the explosives, took a deep breath, and went to work.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Ocean

- Lisa -

Jax looked at the surrounding and at the boat, weighing their options.

"Which is the better bet at this point?" he asked. "Hoping if we go fast enough we can make it somewhere, or prolonging in the hope that someone finds us in time?"

Bunker Caltha
- James -

James sat back down in front of his computer. He paused for a moment and looked at his reflection. Well that could’ve gone worse. He still didn’t know what to make of this awkward conversation. Was it even prudent that they talked about this before Lenka had even had a chance to catch up on everything? Well time would tell.

His fingers touched the keyboard and he pulled up the video footage Keynes had sent over. He began to analyse it frame by frame. It was tiring and after a while his eyes began to tear up from having to concentrate too much. This surprised him as looking at the screen had never bothered him before. Was he getting old?

---------------------------------------
- Lenka -

Lenka looked up when Luke stammered his questions. He actually looked flushed.

What was going on today?

„Are you okay, Luke?“ she asked and turned to look at him. „You can’t just ask three unrelated questions. How am I supposed to answer that? Am I making you nervous?“

She shook her head in amusement and then decided to answer the first question first.

„Training with Keynes is very … interesting,“ she said and leaned back. Looking up through the tree, she continued. „I think he understands me. He knows I can’t do any of the heavy lifting like you or Jax. But he understands that there’s other things I can do and get better at.“

„And no, you don’t have to be quiet,“ she added after a few seconds.

---------------------------------------

Ocean
- Ehlana –

This sounded troublesome. Ehlana looked from Lisa to Jax. They both seemed at loss on what to do.

„Do we have any tools here?“ Ehlana finally asked. „Is there a way to patch the raft?“

She looked around, trying to acertain whether there was anything that could be of help. She didn’t want to move, it would only expose more skin to the sun. Her hands and neck had already started to take a shade of pink.

„Do you think that by now they are looking for you? If so, what are the odds of them ever finding the crash site?“

---------------------------------------

Old Guard HQ – Peterney
Prison – Nadenka

„They’re flooding the tunnel that has been breached,“ one oft he guards said as they escorted her through the tunnels. „But it has to be done manually.“

Before he could continue, the other guard interrupted him.

„Stop that,“ he said, „We’re not allowed to give out any information. Just be quiet and do your job.“

"Yeah, yeah, I understood," he grumbled back. "It's not like we have to worry about him. I heard one of those Arusian guys volunteered."

----------------------
Northeast tunnel – Alexei

Kurik paced impatiently up and down the room, waiting for Alexei to confirm his location.

Finally the radio com went off with Alexei’s voice. He nodded towards a technician. „Seal the tunnel,“ he ordered.

„We started to seal the tunnel, Alexei. Go ahead,“ he responded into the com.

Kurik looked at one of the few remaining camera’s at the tunnel exit where the Grand Army was working on breaching it. Then suddenly, they did. Dust and debris covered the camera and then the feed was cut.

„Alexei, they breached the tunnel. They’re advancing forward. You have about two minutes until they reach your position.“

For now he could do nothing more than wait. The situation in the tunnel was out of his hands.

Meanwhile, Kurik tried to check in with Lorrin who was still holding the position outside the northeast tunnel.

„Lorrin. Status,“ he asked through the radio.

„They just breached the tunnel. It looks like they’re going in,“ Lorrin responded. „We’ve managed to find a small vantage point and are just holding out now. We’re not in any position to attack or overwhelm them. It seems their focus has shifted from us towards the tunnel.“

Kurik could hear the relief in Lorrin’s voice. „Understood. Just hold your position and observe for now. The flooding will commence shortly.“

Caltha Outside of Bunker
Luke Jaron

"No! No no no! I, I'm sorry, this is a....ummm... for the first time..... I..uhhh.. I...ummm... talking with you as my usual self?..." And Luke's mind was like 'What??? What did I just say??' Luke rubbed his face with his hands, little frustrated.

Then as Lenka showed appreciation of how Keynes was training her, Luke smiled, "Yeah, he had that kind of training master vibe in him." Luke, then for the first time, was looking at Lenka without so much excitement, but calmness. "You know, I never got a chance to actually ask, but, what weapon were you training with? To me, it looked like you were training to use a whip. That's pretty handy weapon to master, if you ask me." Said Luke, smiling gently.

When he actually realized he was saying all this directly looking at Lenka, he looked away, before he could turn pink. Luke cleared his throat, "It's a hard weapon to master unless you have a talent. I think you got what it takes, I'm sure you can pull it through." Said Luke.

"So....uhhhh... so, since I got a permission to speak..... I'm just curious... what's your reason for jumping into this madness?" He asked, looking at Lenka. Luke coughed little "I mean I got into this mess cause my friend turned into that thing, but to jump in... that's either...ummm... well, you are amazingly brave or....ummm... loves risk taking?" Said Luke, trying his best not to say 'studpid' to Lenka.

Old Guard HQ – Peterney
Prison – Nadenka

"Wait! What?" Said Nadenka in surprise, she knew that word 'Arusian'... even though, Belobog did not say clearly of what it was, she had considered that as some kind of unheard tribe from Kaddath... And, to be fair, she knew only one person who could be stupid enough to volunteer and do that... She hope she was wrong, but she could not help it. She could not stop thinking that it would be Alexei as a person who would be foolish enough to volunteer for that job. "идиот!(Idiot!)" then Nadenka quickly tripped one of the guard, and as one fall, she bashed another one with her cuffed hands in full force. She then proceeded knocking out the one that had made a fall to the ground. She quickly took a key from him, and ran. As she ran she had released her cuffs.

She was not so sure what made her do all this, but one thing was in her mind for sure, Alexei's life. She quickly ran to the opposite direction of evacuation, and it was not hard to guess where this manual detonation had to take place. She cursed as she ran to that area, "I had enough of this self-satisfying bull**** heroism!"

Aegis

- Marcus -

"Right." Marcus began pulling trays from the cabinets, but he paused when Rise spoke again. After a moment of silence, he sighed and turned to face her. "It's not so much that things are awkward. I just agree with James on the fact that this isn't a good time. That's the reason why I specifically didn't bring this up to Lenka." Turning back to the cabinet, he continued until he had a stack with enough for everyone.

"I can't exactly blame you for trying to help, but if we're being honest, your help wasn't exactly helpful." He chuckled as he carried the trays over to the table. "Which is why I'd prefer you try and internalize that help when Lenka is around."

"I'll talk to her at some point. Now just isn't the time."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ocean

- Lisa -

"I'd say keeping it inflated is more important at this point, but I don't think re-inflation is worth the effort. If we're trying to marginalize risk here, I'd prefer to keep enough air in it that if we hit a storm, it won't sink."

Taking a deep breath, she leaned forward, and the raft began moving forward again. "I didn't see anything to patch it with in the supplies, but feel free to check for anything I missed." She waved weakly towards the stack of supplies in the center of the raft.

"The tear in the fabric is on the left side of the front. It looks like it might have hit a piece of wreckage on the ascent from below. I didn't consider debris being in my way when I pulled the cord to inflate it down there. I just wanted to get back to the surface as fast as possible."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Communication Hub

- Alina -

The temperature bled from the room as the audio clip played, frost beginning to form on the monitors. It was her voice. There was no denying that. Slowly flexing her fingers out, she reached into her pocket and fished out her communicator, which she sat on the desk by a technician. "Cross check the signal code. I want confirmation it didn't come from my device. Have someone collect the one from my office and cross check it as well."

"Whoever sent this order got a recording of my voice somehow."
She thought back, trying to remember any place where she would have used all of those words in different context. "Get me a list of everyone that has access to the recorded files from the Council Chambers."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Electorate Office

- Keynes -

Keynes looked up at the concerned face standing at the door. She was bound to hear it eventually anyway. So, it might as well come from him. "To be honest, I'm not entirely sure." He waved her further into the office.

"But apparently, High General Grey, someone stuck in the meeting with them the whole time, somehow personally ordered an assault on the Old Guard's headquarters. You tell me. Does that sound as fishy to you as it does to me?"

Ocean
- Jax -

Jax looked through the supplies they had, his meager hopes vanishing by the second.

"Even if we could find something to patch it," he said, which wasn't looking likely from what they had on hand. "Finding the hole would be another matter entirely. It could be very small, and this is a big raft. Searching for that while under the water..."

He shook his head. Well, if it was their only option, they might as well try as sit and wait to drown.

"Find me something I can use," he said to Ehlana, as Lisa was busy steering. "I'll try to find the leak in the meantime."

He crawled onto the edge of the boat and paused.

"They should have realized by now that we're missing," Jax told Ehlana. "But there's a good chance they might not be able to find us in time."

Alina... Would he never be able to see her, touch her, taste her again? The very thought made his heart ache as he slipped over the boat's edge into the water.

---------------------------------------

Old Guard HQ – Peterny

- Alexei -

Two minutes.

Alexei inhaled deeply and got to work setting the explosives. It wasn't much time for such precise work, but that didn't matter. He was in his element, all his focus on the task at hand.

He wasn't sure how much time had transpired when he'd finished, but he knew there couldn't be much left. He quickly began to make his way down the tunnel toward the Army. He hadn't gone too far when he heard the explosion, the telltale rattling under his feet, and the rising roar of rushing water....

---------------

Caltha - Bunker

- Marcus -

Rise rolled her eyes at Marcus and jabbed a finger in his direction.

"I would have been more helpful if you'd been easier to help!" she said. Ugh, boys. Where was Lisa when she needed her?

Lisa... She hoped the others were okay. Had the Army been able to locate them yet? Hopefully, Keynes could get them some information on that soon. Speaking of Keynes though, he'd been gone a while.

"I hope Keynes hurries back," she said, moving the pot off the burner and setting it aside. "It would be nice if Alina could join us too."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Communication Hub

- Lecarde -

Lecarde watched Alina barking out orders with regards to her voice being recorded. Maybe it was best to at least mention this, even if Keynes had nothing to substantiate his claim.

"Keynes seems to think the Old Guard's doctor did it," he said evenly.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Electorate Office

- Serena -

Serena didn't seem quite as skeptical as Keynes did, although she certainly seemed troubled.

"You haven't considered the possibility that she recorded the order ahead of time?" she asked. "It wouldn't have taken much time to quickly send the pre-recorded message off during the meeting."

She shook her head and stared across at the opposite wall, lost in thought.

"I don't want to think High General Grey would be capable of that," she said quietly. "But I don't have the luxury of only entertaining possibilities I approve of."

She turned to look at Keynes. She knew he would not approve of her decision, or probably her after all was said and done. But she had to follow her convictions, and this was something she simply couldn't ignore.

"The Electorate needs to call for an emergency hearing," she said, "to discuss a possible charge of Misconduct against the High General."

Ocean
- Ehlana -

Ehlana looked around and then back to Lisa. “It doesn’t look like there will be a storm,” she said, squinting at the clear blue sk and the sea. The vastness of it still made her feel uncomfortable.

She watched as Jax slid back into the water. When he disappeared from view, she began to look through the stack of supplies in the centre of the raft.

After a while she shook her head. “There’s nothing useful here,” she said. “At least nothing where we can patch it up on the go. Maybe if we were on dry land, we could patch it up properly…”

----------------------------

Caltha - Bunker
- Lenka -

“Your usual self?” Lenka asked and raised her eyebrows. What in the world could that mean. However Luke didn’t elaborate. He seemed embarrassed and she tried to remember if she’d ever seen him with anyone but Mark at the university. But in all honesty, she couldn’t remember. He didn’t seem like the type that would have many friends, no, he was more the loner type. No wonder he had such a hard time dealing with everything.

The topic turned back to her training with Keynes.

“Well, it wasn’t really a whip,” Lenka shrugged. “But he did make me work on precision hitting a target.”

She gave a small laugh at Luke’s words of confidence in her. “Thanks, I try my best, but I don’t really think there is enough time for me to master anything.”

His last question brought a thoughtful expression to her face. “I’m not brave. I mean not more than anyone else,” she said. “But I was there as well at the concert and saw what was happening. Maybe it was curiosity that drove me. Or maybe it was stubbornness,” Lenka laughed. “I don’t often take “No” for an answer.”

“Seriously though, maybe I just wanted to prove that I can be as tough as anybody else. Plus I want to become a journalist. I can’t just be backing down because someone tells me so.”

-----------------------------

Peterney - Old Guard HQ

Prison - Nadenka

The guards were surprised by Nadenka’s sudden attack. So far she had followed them willingly and not made any trouble.

The guards were only unconscious for a short time, but it was enough for Nadenka to get a head start and disappear through the tunnel.

“Shit!” one of the exclaimed and grabbed his radio to call it in. What if she ran back to the Army? She probably had too much information. That would make their life very difficult.

“Squad 15 to command centre,” he said “The prisoner just escaped and ran off towards the northeast tunnels. We’re in pursuit.”

--------------------
Grand Army of Kaddath - North East Tunnel Entrance

“Base to Commander,” the radio of the commanding officer from the Army suddenly sounded. They had just breached the tunnel and were fast approaching the other end as they met with no resistance.

“Copy,” he replied and waited for further instructions.

“New orders: Pull back immediately. Pull everyone out, no matter how far you breached. Bring everyone back. Immediately.”

The Commander looked confused, as did his Sergeants. There was a certain urgency in the voice and they were in the Army long enough to follow orders instead of questioning them. So he followed suit.

“Everyone, pull back. We’re going back to the base now!”

And it wasn’t a moment too soon as another explosion rattled the tunnel, followed by the sound of fast rushing water. And what was supposed to be an orderly retreat ended in a tumultuous race out of the tunnel.

--------------------
Command Centre - Kurik

“She what??” Kurik exclaimed when he heard the report from the guard. He’d just been trying to coordinate with Annabelle how they could hold the south tunnels when the notice of Nadenka’s escape came in.

What was she thinking? There was no way she would get out in time, right? Immediately he turned towards the monitor and pulled up the cameras that were posted throughout the tunnels. “Find her,” he told the technician and returned to the radio.

“The Army is pulling back,” he heard Annabelle report. “They just up and left. What do you want us to do? Pursue?”

Kurik deliberated for a moment and exchanged a look with General Ramirez. “No, hold your position. Once they’re gone, begin to secure the tunnels and the breaching point. Get everyone taken care of.”

Then an explosion once again rattled the tunnels. Alexei.

He tried the com. “Alexei?” but there was no answers. He didn’t really expect one, but he had still hoped.

“Lorrin?” he asked and received a favourable answer. “Annabelle tells me the Army is pulling back. What do you see?”

Lorrin confirmed that the Army on his side was pulling back as well. “The outposts are already gone. I heard the explosion. I suspect the rest will be flooded out momentarily. Do you want us to let them go?”

Kurik gave him the same instructions as Annabelle and only added, “Keep an eye out for the prisoner. She may have escaped in your direction. Do not let her go back with the Army.”

Caltha - Bunker
Luke Jaron

"Well, you are braver than me." Said Luke, smiling faintly, "I followed Aegis because I was afraid of losing someone important, not because I was brave." Luke leaned on the tree, sighing little, much relaxed now, reflecting his emotions and how he was too hot-headed when he was fighting that bear-man.

"To prove yourself that you are tougher as everyone else.... Well, I heard that's an illusion. It's said that everyone has their own strength and weakness, and you could only become tougher than who you are today." Luke realizing what he might have said could be misinterpreted, he quickly added. "It means you have two ways of becoming tough, one is to develop what you are good at, and two, you overcome what you are lacking." Luke cleared his throat, "It means you don't need to compare with others to be tough, but as long as you are stronger than who you were yesterday, you are already proving yourself that you are becoming tougher." Said Luke. Luke swallowed hard for the next statement, he could feel that his face was turning little pink "I mean, I think you are pretty tough, tougher than many people I know."

"And Journalist, that suits you. There's a saying, if you really want to be a truth seeker, you need a persistence." He looked at Lenka, "It seems like you got what it takes." He smiled, but as he felt like he might stare at her aimlessly again, he quickly looked away. "So... uh.... how did you meet Marcus? You two looked very close..." Luke did not know why he asked that question, and his mind screamed at him 'Why am I asking this??'

Peterney - Old Guard HQ
Nadenka Orlov

Nadenka was quickly rushing to the area where the recent bombing sound was heard; her mind was thinking of many things, but most importantly, she was thinking of how much time she had, and how far she was from the site.

Perhaps, Alexei could get himself sometime before the rescue? No, that probably was not the case, it would not be called suicide mission if there was a way to rescue him aftermath.

There was some soldiers around the area, and they were not looking friendly to her. Even though, they were trained, as Nadenka had all of her muscle available, she dodged their act of capture gracefully. "Step aside! I have a fool to rescue!" She barked with an authority as she knocked some of them down to reach the area where she could hear the water rushing out.

Nadenka quickly spotted a hand that looked familiar to her and as she saw the hand swallowed by water, she jumped in without hesitation. The water current was strong, and instead of fighting for it, she allowed herself to be taken by current. She reached the owner of that arm that was trying to get hold of something. It was Alexei.

She quickly take a grab of him and swam with the current hurriedly so that the current got them to the other side where water was calmer and where she had the liberty of pulling him up to surface level of water. As she had herself breather with Alexei's face finally got out from the water, she took a quick look to find where she could get herself out with this huge sized man.

It was then Nadenka saw the top of the tunnel door that had enough space for two of them. it was a place where normally often overlook and it was where cameras would be placed. She swam, as the water was calmer and as she had no resistance from Alexei, she reached there quite quickly. She got the body of Alexei out, and she got herself out from water as well. She quickly put her head to Alexei's chest.

No beating.

She had to do CPR, and she carried on with the procedure, pump and blow; she was not going to stop until the man lying in front of her come back with beating heart.

But if all fails, she had the her strain to save this man.
