"Thank you" said Mati, "and I am sorry, it seems like someone forgot to file proper report." He scratched his head, he was pretty sure it was written as Mrs. Parker...

As the young girl's eyes met his eyes, Mati gave gentle and warm smile. "She's adorable." He commented.

As he sat on the chair, he looked at the direction where the young girl ran off to, making sure she was not hearing what he was going to say.

"Were you with your sister when she was attacked by this wild animal?" Mati asked carefully, "I know you have been asked by my peers already, but this is to confirm with you. One of the evidence is suggesting that the attack of this wild animal was not random."

"Strong, huh?" Ava said, raising her eyebrows. "Well, that's not going to matter much against a werewolf. You need to be able to hit a movin' target, and a fast one to boot."

She gave her silver pistol a small wave, then returned to polishing it.

"I definitely prefer huntin' things I can touch," she said, returning to his earlier point. "Monsters are easier. You hit 'em right, you kill 'em. But I had a tangle with my first ghost a little while back. That was somethin' else."

She shook her head. Give her a hulking werewolf any day.

--------------------

Simon gave a wry smile as they sat down.

"She was a Mrs... till her louse of a husband walked out. She took back her family name again and became Ms. Well, the government often messes up files like that."

Simon could see that Mati was waiting for Amber to leave before getting to the point. Surely enough, as soon as the door of the little girl's room had closed, the agent began to speak. Simon looked perplexed by the topic.

"No, no I wasn't. I- I don't understand," he said, laughing shakily. "What do you mean 'not random'? How could a wild animal attack be planned?"

"Haah... Well." He was sure she'd be in his pants after he smacked down a werewolf. Probably.

"Well, we cannot say it in all confidence, but the one particular evidence suggest that it may be not a random attack. Did she have enemies?" Mati asked carefully, and he added gently. "Please do not be offended, I am just trying to link the pieces together to find out why it happened to her. And please take your time to think about it."

Depending on his response, Mati had one more question in his mind. Mayor Reynolds, did Emily Parker knew Mayor Reynolds? But as that question could be asked later, Mati waited Simon's response respectively.

Ava blinked at Alex's oddly noncommittal response and looked over at him, her eyes narrowing suspiciously as she did so. He wasn't so discreet with his gaze, and she had a pretty good idea of where his mind was off to.

"I'm not entirely sure what you're thinkin'," she said, slapping a cartridge of silver bullets into the gun. "But you probably want to move on to somethin' else."

She gave him a hard look that showed she was unlikely to get in bed with just any guy who came along, especially one like him.

--------------------

Simon looked pale and shaken at Mati's words.

"Evidence?" he asked, shooting a look at Amber's door before lowering his voice. "What evidence?"

This seemed to be distressing him quite a bit. He ran a hand through his hair and shook his head, as though finding it all very hard to believe.

"No, Emily had no enemies," Simon said softly. "She was a sweet, loving person. No one could want to hurt her..."

The sign of distress worried Mati little bit, however he had to ask.

"Well, did she know the current mayor? Mayor Reynolds?" Mati lowered his voice, "And do you remember why she went outside that night?"

Mati asked him calmly, hoping his calmness would calm Simon. "It's another routine question, you do not need to think too much about it." He added professionally, "But it would be big help if you could remember all the possible details." he gave Simon an assuring smile.

Simon looked taken aback by the implication that Emily might have had anything to do with Reynolds.

"No, not him," he said, shaking his head. "She would never have..."

He trailed off, composing himself for a moment before looking back at Mati for the second question.

"She was... upset," he said, struggling slightly with the words, whether by memory or emotion. "Went outside to... clear her head, I think."

His eyes darted to the clock, and he cleared his throat audibly.

"I'm sorry, agent, but I do have to start preparing dinner for Amber," he said, standing up. "I wish I could help more. If someone was really behind it... Well, I'm sure they'll pay for their sins."

His expression darkened for a moment, but he forced a smile and moved to the door, holding it open as a clear invitation to leave.

"Well, thank you so much for your help, Simon." Mati commented as he left. As he walked away from the house, he turned and looked at the house he just left. Simon seemed to know something and from what he displayed, it seems Reynolds and Emily knew each other....

"Hmm... Interesting...." Mati commented and as he was far away from the house, he called Ava, "I am done, I will see you all in Mayor's."

Ava, Alex, and Mati convened at the mayor's office at dusk. His secretary was hesitant to allow them in, as they were supposed to be leaving soon, but a buzz from the intercom to allow them in saw an end to that.

As they walked into the mayor's office, Ava looked around, seeing many knick-knacks on shelves against the walls clearly meant to display his accomplishments and collection of rare items. Plaques, framed newspaper clippings, an antique rifle, an ornate silver whistle, several medals from what seemed the Civil War, a collection of rare coins, and various other things.

"Quite a collection you've got here," Ava commented pleasantly, observing some of it.

"Thank you," the mayor said, cordial enough. "Some of it I got myself. Some of it my father left me."

Ava moved away from the shelf to the seats arranged before the desk, where Alex and Mati were already seating themselves. As she did so, she caught sight of a picture on the corner of the desk of a man with a rugged but pleasant face and a young boy on his knee, with a tall woman standing behind them, smiling serenely.

Ava froze for a moment, then realized what she'd done and slowly sank into one of the chairs.

"That your family?" she asked, keeping her voice casual. Reynolds glanced at the photo she seemed to be indicating and nodded.

"Yes, my mother and father and I. But - I hate to be rude - you did come here to speak about something important?"

Knowing it would imprudent to push further, Ava forced a smile and reclined into her chair, nodding. She looked over to Mati, giving him the cue to proceed. He was the team leader, it seemed, and besides... she was too busy processing this revelation.

Mati got the cue from Ava, and sighed little. 'When did I become a team leader?' thought Mati as he shifted his gaze to the mayor.

"Well, Mayor. We have few questions regarding the recent victims of this wild animal, as this is just to confirm the stories, hope you would not take it offensive. " Said Mati calmly, "So, first of all, did you know Emily Parker?"

As Simon was hesitated to answer him, Mati were not able to get the information that would tie the first case with the mayor.

Mayor Reynolds looked puzzled as to why they would be coming to him about this. With the mention of the name "Emily Parker," he appeared even more bemused.

"No, I never met the woman," he said, looking at each of the hunters in turn. "I'm sorry, what is this about? We already have animal control searching the area for the bear, so I'm not sure what the FBI has to do with-"

"You ever see a bear attack?" Ava asked, cutting him off. Reynolds blinked, looking taken aback.

"No, I'm afraid not," he said, forcing a smile.

"Well, bears don't exactly go straight for hearts and leave the rest of the bodies intact," Ava continued, fixing her eyes on him.

"I'm sorry, Miss-?"

"Wilson," Ava invented.

"Miss Wilson, are you a wildlife specialist?"

"No, but-"

"Well, then," Reynolds said, leaning back in his chair with a contemptuous look. "I think we'll take the expert's advice."

Ava wanted to argue back, as was her nature, but she buttoned her mouth. Clearly, direct tactics weren't going to be helpful. Fuming silently, she waited for one of the other two to take the lead.

"And in the meanwhile, we'll be doing our job, Mr. Reynolds. I can only ask you be cooperative and keep an open mind." Neither imposing or layered with subtle threats. Just plainly blunt.

Mati didn't like where this was going; they were missing something, something very important. What was it though? What could they have missed?

Then his new partner, Alex decided to look threatening to the mayor. Hoping it would not offend the mayor, Mati opened his lips and gently he spoke to the man "Well, what my partners are trying to say is this, Mr. Reynolds. We are not here because we want to waste your precious time, Mr. Reynolds. We believe this attack did not happen randomly. This is your first term as a mayor and if you don't resolve it, you are not going to like what media would say about you. We are asked to help you out, and we need you to go through this routine questions and that is all."

Mati gently smiled at Mayor, "Well, then, could you tell me about him." Mati took out the photo of a man who used to work under him

The mayor stared at Alex for a moment, then smiled tightly.

"Of course, Agent," he said, nodding his head. But it was Mati that spoke again, and the look of politeness waned when Mati began to make insinuations about his position.

"Second term," Reynolds corrected, disgruntled. "And we've made a suggested curfew and put up fliers to spread awareness. But I can't control the people and make them do the sensible thing. It's a free country, after all."

Sniffing discontentedly, the mayor returned his attention to the photo being produced and stared at it a moment before snorting.

"Well, I assume that's a rhetorical question, as you, no doubt, are already aware of his position. Yes, Bertrand Carver. He worked in an advisory position on my staff. I understand he was one of the people attacked. Shame. Good worker."

Despite his words, he didn't seem particularly at a loss for the deceased.

"I am sorry, but you don't sound like you miss him that much." Said Mati, "would you care to elaborate why? And if you do know why he was out that night, that would be great as well."

Mati said gently, and partly Mati knew why the mayor might not like the guy who was attacked. Then again, he had to make sure.

So far Mati did not like how this case was progressing. They might have to plant a trap for the werewolf if no leads or whatsoever comes into the light. From Mati's understanding, this case was heavily related to this man, Mayor Reynolds. Is he going to be the next victim? Or is he asking the werewolf to hunt others? Mati couldn't be sure and he needed more answer and more time.

Moreover, Mati couldn't sure if the thing would give him more time. It might run before Mati and his group catches up to it. Or kill more people....

Reynolds looked impatient with Mati's questions.

"I'm sorry, should I shed a tear? He was an employee, not a bosom buddy. Nor was he my child, to be keeping tabs on his nocturnal activities. Of course I don't know why he was out."

Ava gave rather frosty smile to the mayor. Clearly, he had a great deal of apathy of others.

"You had two employees getting attacked. I suppose that doesn't bother you much," she said, trying hard to keep from sounding too caustic. Reynolds returned the smile with just as genuinely.

"I guess I should be smarter at hiring staff in the future," he drawled. "Now, is that all? I think I've wasted more than enough time on this."

He stood up, a sign that their interview was over. They were unlikely to get much more out of him at the moment. Besides, Ava had something more valuable anyway that she wanted to share with the others.

"Evenin' then," she said coldly before heading out of the office. Once the reached the outside, she turned to the other two.

"Lead the way back to your motel. We have stuff to talk about."

[OOC: Nex or Gedo, you can get us back to the room in your post, then ask Ava what she has.]

As they were heading back to motel room, Mati was trying to connect the dots. Mati's eyes shifted to Ava, curious of what she was able to find, then he shifted his gaze to the tree that had its leaves dancing.

Mati frowned little, then he put his focus on the job.

As they reach the motel room, Alex asked Ava, "So?", Mati also looked at her as he sat on one of the chairs.

Ava blinked in surprise, her mouth quirking in an amused smile.

"Is there an echo in here?" she asked, sitting down on one of the beds. When she deduced from Alex's gaze that it was his, she grimaced and shifted over to Mati's bed.

"Anyway, there's no chance that mayor doesn't know what's going on," Ava said, getting down to business. "I recognized that picture in his office. The man in the photo - his daddy - was a friend of my daddy. Buck Reynolds. He was a hunter."

She looked from Mati to Alex, hoping they weren't too thick to get the point.

"Buck Reynolds taught my daddy how to hunt werewolves. His son didn't want to become a hunter - Buck wasn't happy about that - but he knew enough about it to recognize signs of a werewolf."

"So?"

Another echo. Oh hey!

"I don't think we particularly have to kill him if he's involved. Just once the wolf is done, throw him in a trunk then drop him off somewhere." Well, that was straightforward to the point. "Otherwise, just track down the werewolf, and watch-out for the guy behind it. He'll probably have a gun. Getting shot hurts a lot, so I suggest not doing that."

"So it means he knows the werewolf or he himself is a werewolf and he is trying his best to hide that fact." commented Mati, and as Alex spoke his plan how to deal with the issue at hand, Mati rubbed his neck. "I don't know, Alex. I do not think it's going to be that easy. First, we have to find out if he is the werewolf or not and we also have to find out how many." Mati shifted his gaze to Ava, "Any suggestions, Ava?" He asked gently.

"If he's the werewolf," Ava said, looking thoughtful. "I doubt he'd have silver laying around. Did you see that whistle? Solid silver. Still, easiest way would be to try touchin' him with it. See if anything happens."

That would be easy enough. Figuring out his involvement with it would be more difficult.

"Otherwise," she continued, "Stake out his office. See who comes and goes. Or, if he leaves, see who he goes to meet."
